Ick!!
Okay, this is so discusting, my husband has scabies!! I mean, my husband is not discusting, just the thought of little bugs is discusting. Anyway, my husband doesn't have health insurance, and we are dead broke right now, so, no doctor. I've already called the doctor to see if she'd call something in, and she won't without seeing him. Anyway, has anyone dealt with this? Is there anything I can do??? Is there anything I can do to keep from getting it? To keep my son from getting it? My son nor I have gotten any symptoms of it yet. I mean, I'm itching like crazy, but then again, just thinking about it makes me itch like crazy. Anything you can think of that might help, please please please, let me know!!!

So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone. I'm shocked to see that so many people have dealt with this. Someone asked how I know that it's scabies without being diagosted by a dr, and I know b/c my mother in law has worked for a vet for 15 years and sees it every day. In pets and thier owners. She know what it looks like VERY well. Anyway, she called in some cream for us to use. It is called elimite. I talked to my doctor who said that if she had called something in for us, that would have been what she would have used, so I trust it. I picked it up this morning and we plan to use it tonight, get up in the morning, and wash everything that we've touched in the past 3 days. Thanks everyone for all the information!!

You could try going to the Health Dept. If they can't help then ask them if the Good Samaratin could possibly. They can give you the number! Good luck!

There is a free clinic (it's mainly Hispanic clientele, but the guy that owns it lives here at the Apt community I work at and he said it's great). They can get him a prescription for it without paying dr visit costs. They have 3 locations-Nolensville Rd, Gallatin Pike and Murfreesboro Rd. Here's the main # ###-###-####

I'm sorry to hear of this, I know personally how it is. Three out of four of us got scabies afer we moved into an apartment.
Your husband will have to go to the doctor to get some prescription ointment, I read the so many things online, such as forums and the way other people had treated it, nothing helped at all.
I know it is a big exspense, but in the long run it is well worth it. We went almost 6 months before we found out what it was. It well get worse unless stopped by the treatment.
I have found this website that might answer any questions you have. http://www.health.state.ny.us/diseases/communicable/scabi...
If you need anything else let me know. Hope things get better for you!

Most doctors will see you without Insurance. They will want payment up front, but some will see you for around 30 dollars. Try the health departments. As you know without treatment this only spreads.

I know how you feel! My father-in-law got scabies about two years ago, and it freaked us all out! Our pediatrician told us that short of not being around him at all, the only thing we could do was keep Lysol on everything, change the sheets regularly and not have skin to skin contact. As I'm sure you know, you'll definitely know if you get scabies. Sorry that you have to go through this. Not fun!

L.,
You need Qwell Lotion to treat scabies and it is prescription only. It is a very messy - coat your entire body with the stuff - treatment.
Scabies is also VERY contagious.
You really need to just find a reasonable walk-in clinic and get it treated as soon as possible.
Oh, and don't share a bed until he's clear....

I understand,we got my little girl a potbellied pig for her birthday and I got itchie, thank God we do have insurance, the doc gave me plenty for the whole family and then some, turned out we didn't have it so I have a bunch of cream here. The doc did say precription meds/creams are the only way to stop it,so if you wanna tell me where you are(i'm in east TN)maybe I can send you what i'm not using?? Until then avoid skin contact with him as much as possible, keep washing all the clothes and bedding and dry them on the highest dryer setting you can.Hope I can help.
