I recently left the world of pharmaceutical sales and we use to do tons of private dinners so here goes...Flemings but you have to have a minimum $$$ spent but they do it right!
Downtown - Ocean (love this place ) and 26 next door...both have private dining rooms. In the lakeview area the Oyster House has a private room upstairs and is casual on reasonable. Check with Nona Rose in Vestavia. At Brookwood Village the steakhouse that was copper grill has a great private room. Surin in downtown has a little area in the back that serves as a private dining. McCormick and Schmick's beside Brookwood Village has small private dining rooms. I can't really think of others off the top of my head with private areas, but I'll keep thinking!

You and your mom might enjoy going to McCormack and Schmidts for her birthday celebration. They do have small or large private rooms available for parties and the food is great. It is located at the end of the Brookwood Mall parking lot on the Macy's side. It is a pretty restaurant and the food is great. They will even personalize your menus to wish your mom a happy birthday.
