I organize a Mom's group in North Dallas that meets for dinner once a month. Anyone have some good restaurant suggestions for a group of 8 or so?

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

I am not sure how far up north you would like to meet, but I have a tea room in McKinney called Alice's Tea Shoppe. We have several mom groups that meet here during the week. We have a couple of rooms, so they prefer the grey room as it's a little more private. We are not located on the square, (we are on the east side of Louisiana) about a block east from the square. However, we do have a parking lot (major convienence). Our lunches run about $10.00, including a drink (we have crepes as well). Or we can schedule a private dinner and prepare a menu (within your budget) for the ladies. We are not open for dinner, but we do host several evening events for private dinners, bunco, bridge groups, haunted teas (yes,we are haunted, which is why night events are becoming so popular). If interested, check out our website, www.alicesteashoppe.com, or you can call or email me at ____@____.com or ###-###-####. Our address is 345 E. Lousiana, McKinney, 75069. Thank you, C.

I don't know how far you are willing to travel to eat out, but Wylie has a new restaurant, open for less than a year. Taste of Home - I think they have a web page. On Ballard St

The owner bought a century old house, put in a commercial kitchen and serves pretty good food - the chef is a very unique individual - highly tattooed, and biker looking, but with a good heart.

From Wylie, it takes us about 45 minutes to get to 635 and 75.

I assume you want a kid friendly place. There's Cafe Brazil next to Central Market at GB Turnpike & Coit. Cafe Brazil gives out doodle pads and afterwards you can walk to the play area at Central Market for extra play time.

Nico's Cocina in Carrollton at Frankford & Josey near CVS. It doesn't seem like much from the outside but they have a patio that opens to a sizable private play area for all ages. http://www.nicoscocina.com/

Carino's off of Tollway & Trinity Mills gives kids crayons to color with. Picasso's Pizza Grill probably does too but I've not been there yet.

At the Galleria, try the Grand Lux, which is comparable to the Cheese Cake Factory. Being by the Galleria you can meet up before or after at the mall play area.

Lastly, my favorite, is Dream Cafe off of Beltline & Tollway at the back of the Bed, Bath Beyond shopping center. They offer a healthy menu and have a private outdoor play area in the front attached to the patio. It's a lovely place for brunch or lunch, especially with favorable weather. http://www.thedreamcafe.com/

I too am part of a small group of mom's who likes to go out once a month or so. We live in Allen so we have really enjoyed all the dining options at the New Watter's Creek (off Bethany and 75). Options include Cheesecake Factory (if you sit at the bar they have a great smaller portion menu with really good drinks). Grimaldi's Pizza, Mi Cocina, P.F. Changs and our favorite Brio. We sometimes meet late 8:30 or 9 pm and take advantage of their bar specials too. All these places also have outdoor dining.

Another more adventurous option is Zanders House. On the East side of 75 just north of Park. AWESOME upscale, gourmet vietnamese. Highly recommend it.

There is also Uncle Julio's at Stacey Rd and 75. Jsut avoid weekends there.

Hope these ideas help. Enjoy!

Benihana is a lot of fun to go to with a group. There is a location in North Dallas near 635 and Hillcrest and their newest location in Plano at the Shops on Legacy. It is a Japanese restaurant where the chef cooks right at the table. It is a lot of fun and the entertainment comes with dinner. www.benihana.com

The Egg & I Restaurant is family owned & operated. They are right off the Dallas North Tollway on Montfort and Arapaho (1 Block North of Beltline). The son, Ryan ... is the manager and has a 2 year-old and one on the way. They have a great funny face kid's menu and they are great with kids. My son and daughter beg me to go there at least once a week ... but honestly the food is so good ... they don't have to! I would recommend this place to everyone. They also have a free private room and I was there one day when a pancake birthday party was going on. It was adorable. The kid's got to decorate their pancakes and then the owner took them all on a tour of the kitchen.
