I Need Help Keeping My Infant Daughter's Eyeglasses On

We recently found out that my 12 mos. old needed glasses. Her doctor wasn't much help as to wear to find these. I called around everywhere and got the same response, 'We don't carry infant frames.' I finally found infant frames at a pediatric opthomologist but they don't have a strap to hold them on her head they just hook around her ears. They told us that they haven't seen the strap for years and didn't know if they made them anymore. Well the doc wanted her to start wearing them immediately so we ordered them and got her prescription put in. Well as you can imagine she just won't keep her glasses on, she pulls them off every chance she gets. Now I have frames that we spent alot of money on and I can't even get her to wear them. Can somebody help me.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I really appreciate everyone's help. I ended up buying an infant eyeglass strap online but by the time it got here, after me and my husband kept putting her glasses back on her time and time again from her throwing them to the floor, she decided that she wants to wear them. It felt like forever but it turned out that persistence paid off. Thanks to everyone who responded.

J.,
I did some searching on the internet for you and found a website that does sell the straps you are talking about. It is www.getsafensound.com. They sell something for hearing aids as well but they did say they make the straps for infant glasses. I hope this helps you and good luck!

What about trying a sport's store. Some of them carry the sports strap for infants who do gymnastics.

what if you went to babies r us and bought a pair of infant sunglasses with the strap already on. Maybe you could somehow sew it on to the glass you bought. I bought a pair of glasses there for my sun for the summer time (he's 20 months) and he seems to like them. Good luck!

With my oldest who needed them... it was very hard... I use to put the glasses on him when he would nap and get up in the morning before he actually woke up and then he wouldn't realize that they were on... it takes a lot of time

Tiffany,
Far-sightedness is not the only vision problem out there. My nephew had a vision problem that had to be surgically corrected when he turned 3--but he had to wear glasses from the time he was about 10 mos. old until he had the surgery.

They used Croakies on his glasses to keep them on.

Hang in there, I too had a 10 month old boy that had to have glasses. Looking back I don't know how I did it! I did not use the strap. Persistance is the key! It gets easier I promise! I remeber I bought his glasses at Target and they hooked around his ears.

Ok well your doctor is crazy all children are farsited My doctor told me that. He said until the age of two all children will not see right. But I know what you are going through my 4 yr old has glasses her vision was just too far beyond the normal farsitedness. any way your best bet is to call all pedeactric eye doctor other than yours and see if they can't tell you where to go or call your insurance company and they will tell you where to go.

You may want to try http://www.babybanz.com and get her used to wearing glasses that she can't take off. I also found Croakies for kids which are bands that can be used with eyeglasses and sunglasses - http://www.croakies.com/eyewearretainers/eyewearsport/cro...

As far as the OB nurse goal (mine is to be a midwife) - there is a great online option which has been helpful to me in pursuing my RN: www.riosalado.edu

Best of luck!

My young daughter wears glasses and we can only keep them on with a strap. I got her strap from EyeMasters in the Mesilla Valley Mall. If you have one by your house, then check it out. The one that they recommended for her is made of a sponge-like material, is black, and works very well. Good luck. I would also recommend having her wear them for very short periods of time, at first, and build up. Also, your daughter might be too young, but we told our's that she had to ask to take them off, but if she did we would help her. That way she wasn't pulling at them all the time or leaving them all over. Good luck, it can be done!

Keep trying to make her wear them, every time that she takes them off, put them back on again, even if you do this all day. Eventually she will get tired of the little game and keep them on. It might take more than a day of trying but it is well worth the effort. Good luck and don't give up.

Have you tried seeing if they have sport glasses (goggle type) in her size? It would help at least until you find ones that would work better and she can't break them. Good luck!

I just found a website that has the elastic ones. Pretty reasonable prices too.
