Advice for Glasses

I have a 3 year old daughter, who has been wearing glasses for about 3 months. All was going well, and she does really well with taking care of them, until about a month and a half when my one year old descovered her glasses. Now he is constantly trying to grab them off of her face, and breaking them in the process. Any ideas on how to deter my little guy, so that were not making the weekly or more trips to the eye dr. to get them fixed.

What can I do next?

I would go to the store & pick up a pair of kids sunglasses & see if that stops or at least slows him down. If they are dark you might have to pop out the lens.

Hi A.,

Go to Walmart, Target, Walgreens, wherever and get some plastic glasses for your son...you know like little reading glasses or fake glasses (plastic lenses) that don't do anything. Let him have his own pair and he'll probably give up trying to get his sisters! Good Luck!

What you might get to do is have your three year old take off her glasses when she has face to face contact with your 1 year old.
As a person that wears glasses I have yet to figure out how to stop an infant from grabbing them.

Best of Luck,
C.

When he does this use the same protcol as hitting, say sternly "no touch" and take his hand away. Have your daughter have special permission from walking away from him or telling you when this is happening so you can intervene.
Like anything else he isn't allowed to touch be firm and remove him from the situation. No he won't freak about being around his sister, hee hee. I had to do this with my son when I wore my reading glasses and he would grab them. I can sympathize it is expensive!

I know for adults they make frames that easily bend and work well for parents with little children. Not sure if they make them for children or not, just something to look into. They are a little more expensive, but are very difficult to break. This may help if getting the one year old some glasses doesn't.

What I did with my children is when you see them grabbing for things, even on you mom, I would gently touch his hands and say "No, those are mommy's pretties". Do it every time and do on sister's glasses too. This gets them used to the fact that some things can't be touched because they are not his. It also give mom and sister a sense of something that is only yours and hers. I hope this helps.
I would like to say ThanK You to you and your husband for serving our Country. I know that I appreciate it very much!!!!!!! K

Have you bought the little one a couple pair of cheap sunglasses? Then you can say phrases like, "Yes! You want glasses, too. Where are YOUR glasses?"

I would make sure that he knows that they are his sisters. You might want to try to get him some dollar store sunglasses of his own, is it that he likes to "play" with glasses? I have worn glasses forever and have taught all three of my kids that Mom's glasses aren't toys but they can have some of their own (sunglasses) and from a very young age they have done well not to grab them or take them off my face. So maybe try a big "presentation" with glasses case and some dollar store glasses for him and let him know that they are special for him just like his sisters are special for her. Just a thought.

I also have a child wearing glasses. Get your younger guy a pair of glasses & sunglasses so he can feel part of the excitement. Good luck, M.

Try getting some Croakies to attach to your daughter's glasses. They make some really cute ones and can be worn under her hair. At least that way if your son pulls on them, they won't be able to come off as easily.

I would suggest getting the little guy a pair of non prescription childrens glasses so he has his own pair of glasses and telling him he can only touch or wear his own glasses.
