My 7month old twins are teething... they both have low grade fevers & runny noses. I have heard this is normal and that this isnt normal. What is your experience? We have called their Pediatrician and they recomended not bringing them in unless their temp gets to 103.0
we have given them tylenol every 6 hours for the fever, we give them cool baths when we can and have been putting wet washclothes on their foreheads/back of their necks. IS therer anything else i can do to help keep their fevers down?
I also need suggestions for the runny noses... my son will let me use the sucky thing ( i cant remember what the heck its called!) but my daughter will not let me come near her with it. My poor babies have red noses and the area right under their noses is red and chapped. Is there anything i can put on it to prevent the chapping?
one more question for mamas of multipes... how do/did you handle teething with more than one baby?
any advice is appericated

What can I do next?

So sorry! Teething can be hard! One suggestion for their noses, buy good tissues. I'm usually one to not buy the best most expensive things, but in tissues I do. It makes a big difference for my son's nose when he has a cold or was teething. Also, like someone else said, Aquaphor is great for chapped noses.
Also, as long as their fever isn't too high and not bothering them try not to worry too much about it. A low grade fever won't harm them (I know, it's hard not to worry)
One other thing, my son loved to chew on a piece of tough leather when he was teething. I know it's a little weird, but it worked wonders for him!
Good luck! I'm going through the exact same thing with my daughter right now. Hang in there, we'll make it!

Get those Lil Munchkins food bags- it is a handle with a mesh bag. Put an ice cube in it and give to them. This will help with the teething pain and help the fever. It worked wonders for my 2 youngest! Good luck.

All that you are doing is great. I find that alternating between Tylenol and Motrin works well to keep the fever down. Not certain of your feeding situation, but I know for us, nursing is what has helped everyone through the teething. That closeness and cuddle time really helps! If you don't nurse, just do the cuddling with a bottle, lots of sleep too! Whenever we go through a bout of teething (on 2 yr molars right now) I provide lots of my son's favorite foods, allow for more down time and tv time, longer naps, cuddles, etc. I treat it just like being sick with a cold or flu.

Totally normal! It'll go away as soon as the teeth break through. :) My DD is going through the same thing right now. DS did too when he was that age.

Get a Vick's outlet vaporizer for their stuffy heads. It's a little cartridge that you plug into the wall, and it releases vapors for 8 hrs. I put it in when DD goes to the sleep, and she's breathing easier immediately. (I found that rubbing the stuff on them doesn't work very well.)

And lots of lotion for their little noses. The more intensive the better. I use Aveeno under my nose when it gets that way - the dimethicone in there keeps it in place. But really, any kind of lotion will work. Even chap stick! Just keep applying every time you wipe. If it gets so bad it's bleeding, switch to Neosporin.

I wouldn't worry about the fever at all. Keep an eye on it, but it's just due to the teeth.
Hang in there!

for the teething, I get a clean dish rag, get it wet and stick it in the freezer until its not 100% frozen (about 15 mins) and give the baby the cold towel...mine would stick it in her mouth and LOVED the feel of cold rag. Also if you know its teething, how about orajel or those teething tablets.
Babies should be old enough to give Infant Motrin too...that last longer than tylenol..I would give that at night before bed.

I also did the frozen washcloth. If their fevers are low grade and not preventing them from sleeping, I wouldn't bother trying to lower it. It's normal your energy could be better spent distracting them and NURSING, the best comfort-giver of all. I would only offer pharmaceuticals at bedtime to help them sleep if you feel they need it. If you do want to lower it, let them play in the bathtub.

Both are totally normal. For my 8 month old she gets benadryl for her runny nose when she is teething. I give her .5 ml (I think). It is half of the infant syrenge that they gave to me in the doctor's office. This has helped out a ton. As far as the fever it sounds like you are doing what you can, but if you read the instructions it says every 4-6 hours or mine does. I would recommend maybe giving it to them every 4-5 hours to keep it in their system. You can also let them chew on a cold wash cloth to help out.

I think they're old enough for you to use ibuprofen too (check with your pediatrician though). I would start alternating them. Also you may not be giving them enough Tylenol if you can't get their fevers down. And yes I think what you’re experiencing is totally normal for teething. We had a similar problem when our oldest was around 12 months. We were going off the dosing on the package but we really needed to be giving her more based on her weight since she was super tall for her age. For their chapped noses I would use Aquaphor. It's a staple in our house. Good luck!

Yes, I would alternate with Motrin and Tylenol for their fevers, cool baths help too, and make sure they are hydrated. Extra milk for them would be good. Just make sure they are eating. Everything will be just fine, this is normal for them to do. Teething is a hard thing for such little ones.

I recommend Hylands Natural Teething Gel. It works great, my son refuses to use anything but this. It has no side effects, no bad taste, well no taste at all which is great, and no numbing either so its a win win. Just great pain relief.

A combination of all these, and lots of hugs and cuddles from Momma will do the trick.

Best wishes!
