Hello ladies, boy do I hate to be even having to type this here. My husband is unemployed as of yesterday. Josh came down with Viral Meningitis on the Saturday before the 4th of July, well his work release was over yesterday. When he called to get placed back on the board to return to work, our worst totally unimaginable fear happened, they said they had replaced him. Talk about a low blow to the gut. I am just going to be totally honest and out right with you ladies. He WAS bringing home around 5,000 a month. I do not bring home a fraction of that. And to make matters worse, we have not been the least bit responsible and saved next to nothing. What we had saved we spent on bills last week to make up for him not working. So now the job hunt begins, he works in the oilfield. (My real fear is that he just turned 30 last week, and now no one wants him there, a man in his thirties can't do the type of work a man in his twenties can get done) The clencher is we only moved here 7 months ago and have no clue where to even begin looking for work for him is. So if any of you laides have husbands who work in the oilfield or have suggestions of where he could go in search of employment PLEASE PLEASE contact me. I know for a fact that either we are going to have to not pay car payments this month or rent. big dececion to make, all of our family is 160 miles away, and we don't really have anyone to turn to. If you happen to think of us, say a little prayer. I have never been more nervous. My daughter is in Pre-K this year, and as of right now she is in a pretty good private school, I know this is a terrible time to have to change her into another school, plus the type of school we would be faced with putting her in would be much less than the enviroment she is in. I am just freaking out right now, and have no clue where to even begin with all of this. Any suggestions for employment, or for any type of financial aid institutions that may be able to help with things like electric bills or rent would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much!!!

My husband works for a construction company based out of Grand Prairie called W.W. Weber and depending on his work history and education he can make $2,000 to $4,000 a month. Its not as much as your husband was making but its good work. Look em up of it sounds good. Its off Beltline and Jefferson in Grand Prairie. Theres alot of construction going on right there so he wont miss it!

How long has he been at that job? Did you file for unemployment? I am pretty sure it is illegal to let someone go for being out sick on a doctor note without prior attendance issues. I would contact their corporate HR department. There are laws to protect workers did they not tell you about FMLA which they are required to tell you about when you are out for a serious illness or taking care of a family member with a serious illness. File for unemployment ASAP i think it takes a couple of weeks to get all the paperwork approved. You can even file online! Good luck!

Hi K. :) go too craigslist.com & do a search for delivery drivers. I noticed your other post about bieng able to work early morning - I see a lot of ads on craigslist.com looking for delivery drivers to deliver papers & it brings in around $1K-$1,200 a month I believe.. Also other delivery drivers (such as the coca cola one mentioned above) pay well & some even have great benefits, such as UPS, Fedex, Frito Lay, etc.
Also someone who works as a courier using their car averages around $3-4,500 a month I believe.. Hope this helps!

My husband works at FedEx, and there and UPS are great jobs with excellent benefits, but it can sometimes take up to 6-8 months just to hear back from them after applying.

1-800-GO-FEDEX and listen for the job opportunities.

I would try www.craigslist.com as well.

Also, sometimes electricity companies and mortgage companies will set up a payment plan under dire situations, if you call them and tell them your situation up front.

Another great resource, is saving on food. It's expensive to supply for a family, and there is an organization that you can sign up for food for a VERY cheap price. It's good quality, and easy to do, and you don't have to fill out any qualifying paperwork to get it. It is a charity that works through many different churches, so you won't feel pressured about any of the religions, they just want to provide food for needy people.

I know an old friend that works for halliburton and they have a certain amount of time they are overseas and certain amount of time they are at home. Don't know for sure how they hire or what but I am pretty sure it is www.halliburton.com. My husband works as service tech manager at wingfoot and I know they always need service techs there-pay starts at 12 and they get work truck to drive to and from work and get TONS of overtime. Email me back if interested I can give you more details. He would be changing tires on the big rigs.

definitely try and file for unemployment, as they have MANY resources available. The workforce commission may even be able to help you find jobs. They can help you apply for any aid you may qualify for as well. I don't know what you currently make, but your family may now qualify for food stamps and WIC, which would help a lot! If you qualify for food stamps, you also qualify for a reduction in your electricity, phone bills, help with medical, etc etc. There is a lot of help available. Be sure to let your bill collectors know what is going on as soon as possible. They would rather work with you and see some money, than not get any money at all. Don't be afraid of taking your daughter out of school if you have to. Children are very resilient, and she may just surprise you. Good luck and feel free to email if you need to vent.

Added to note: definitely check into angelfoodministries as well. This is NOT just for needy people. Everyone can benefit, and you can get enough food to essentially feed your family for a week for $25.

As far as electric goes, I think you can pay half of what you owe every month without it getting cut off.

Can you sell stuff on eBay? Sell a car? Cancel memberships and subscriptions that you are not bound to by contract, including cable and cell phones.
Have you thought of homeschooling to save money?

We recently had to downsize as well. It was hard at first, but now I am used to it.

Fear is the opposite of faith. Focus on all your blessings and keep thinking positively!! I will say some prayers for you!

I don't have a solution for the work factor of your post but I will say to just be diligent... pray... and give it to God... be strong for one another. Cling together...don't let this separate you and divide a stake in your relationship -- especially if you've come so far in working through some hard times. :) I'll pray for you guys!
