How Long Would It Take to Notice Your Haircut?

How long would it take your husband and your kids to notice if you got a new haircut?

My husband and son have not noticed that my hair is 6 inches shorter. Same style, just 1/3 shorter. I'm not upset, I just think it's funny. It's been over 5 hours. My husband had asked me over the weekend if I wanted to go with him to get a haircut, but I was too busy then.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the stories. Amy H., I can understand how upset you would be if you had told him you were getting your hair done and he still didn't notice.

I'm not upset because I didn't do it "for" my husband. My hair was 6 inches below my shoulders, and I got frustrated with tangles from putting it in a ponytail, taking forever to dry, and the weather is warmer now. Now it's above my shoulders, and I feel lighter!

What happened: on Friday night (3 nights later) he asked if I was going to go for a haircut that weekend. I said no, I already took care of it. He asked me why he didn't notice. I told him maybe it's just because he's a guy, and we were able to laugh about it.

I had 5 inches taken off a month ago. It took days for my husband to notice it and it took me saying "Do you notice anything different?" to get him to look closer.

I think it's just a guy thing!

I don't have a husband, but my 4 yr old daughter notices everything. If I get my haircut while she's at school, she notices as soon as I pick her up and offers her critique (positive or negatively) publicly.

Isn't it sad? We notice every little thing about them (our husband and kids) and yet I swear I'd need to shave my head to get the one of them to notice something different about me!!!

Depends on how long my hair started, and how short I go. If my hair is long and I cut 6 inches, my hubby probably would get a general feeling that something was different, but not realize I got a hair cut. However, if my hair is shorter, and cutting 6 inches would put my hair above my shoulders, he would immediately notice!

My husband notices a half inch in five minutes. That's just how he is. On the other hand I never notice when he cuts his hair. He always teases me about it. Of course, I don't remember birthdays or our anniversary but he does. He teases me about that too.

I put "renew" face cream on at night and in the morning my entire face was red and swollen with my eyes almost swollen shut and my 19 yr old son and husband walked around me in the kitchen that morning getting ready to leave and never noticed. Men are out of it.

When I was married, my husband noticed EVERYTHING. Not always for complimentary reasons.
As a very light blonde, I tried going auburn by myself and turned out bright fuschia.
As if the heart attack I gave myself wasn't enough. He was not amused.

My kids can tell if I trim 2 inches off my hair.
It could be flashbacks from when I cut my waist length hair so short I had the Dennis the Menace thing going on after a few years into a very long and drawn out divorce.

My hair is long again, but after 14 years, my ex husband still notices every time I do something different.

When my sister lived closer, I used to tell my brother-in-law, "She went to have her hair done today. You BETTER notice!"
I love him and I want him to stay part of the family.
I remember being little and when my mom changed her hair, my baby sister cried and freaked out.

Your husband might have noticed and he's just waiting to tell you later.
Wink wink.
Then again, he could be thinking that you discussed getting a hair cut, you did it, it's pretty much the same, just shorter. No big.

Maybe you're just so stunningly gorgeous no matter what you do that it's hard to keep up with for your family.

:)

I bet your hair looks great.
A hair cut can be very liberating.

Best wishes.

My 16 year old daughter would notice right away. My 12 year old son, maybe. My husband - unless it was a drastically different hairstyle, he wouldn't notice. But if I moved a vase from one side of the mantle to the other, he'd notice that immediately. Anything about the house, he notices.

I am quick to notice when she gets her haircut, usually because she tells me that is what she is going out to do. She doesn't need permission from me, it's just that with her busy schedule, her outings are not on a whim.
On the other hand, when I get a haircut, it could be a while before she notices it, lol.

I doubt my kids would notice unless I changed the color. My husband would definately notice because I wait until it's looking bad before getting it done again....and well....it's always on a Saturday and he has to watch the kids for me to go get it done to begin with. (Cheating, but he notices).
Perhaps your husband doesn't look at your hair when he's talking to you? Which could be a compliment after years together, if he's still checking you out elsewhere? Years ago, my bff got her hair colored. She went from dirty blond to red. Not strawberry blond, but red-red. I didn't notice. Isn't that weird? But it's because I always just look her in the eye. She always had her hair pulled back, so it just wasn't something I noticed. We talked about all kinds of things for several hours (I wasn't self absorbed; it was her stuff). Then suddenly she got up to get a coke and I was like "Dude. Did you do something different?" She's like "Um yeah---blond to RED". I tend to be like that.

Why does everyone pick on men like this, women don't notice either. I got my hair cut Friday, my husband noticed and loved it but then he knew I was getting it cut. My work knew I was getting it cut but forgot about it. Eight hours! and as I was getting up to leave, oh, didn't you get your hair cut? I had eight to ten inches taken off the top to make shorter but more plentiful layers.

12 women didn't notice in eight hours! This isn't a guy thing ladies!

HA! So funny you asked this. I just had my cut, AND COLORED yesterday. No one even noticed. Two hours after I had been home, I finally asked my husband what he thought. He responded very funny; I think it was obvious that he didn't even notice and felt bad for that. That is why he answered so awkwardly. I'm not mad either but I have to admit that it does make me feel a little invisible.

I posted a very similar question about a month or so ago. No one noticed mine until I said something about it. I got a totally new haircut (went from all one length in the middle of my back to 3 layers with the longest being right below my shoulders) and got it colored. I was really upset especially since he knew I was going to get it cut..but like the others, I don't always notice when he cuts his hair so I couldn't complain to much.

My husband probably wouldn't notice or comment either -- and, honestly, I'm one of those oblivious people, too!

My daughters, on the other hand, notice right away.

It may be they noticed but were afraid to say anything! At least that's the story I got from my husband when I not only cut my hair but had it colored as well. It's not that it looked bad or anything, he just didn't know if I liked it and for whatever reason wasn't sure what to say so he opted not to say anything at all!!!! It still hurt my feelings that he didn't say something but that's just him!!

I would just say "how do you like my new haircut?" and then they have to say something!!

Good luck!!

He wouldn't notice, ever. Just the way he is! Oh and only one or two of my kids (the younger boys) would notice either.

That's OK I don't pay attention to their hair either.

I got my haircut with my sister on Saturday, as soon as I walked in the door he came to greet me and gave me this adorable smile and said "Wow babe, you look GREAT" I was so happy he noticed lol He's always been one to notice little things though.

You should go flaunt your hair in his face and if he doesn't notice even then, start laughing and tell him he's in big trouble!

I don't think he didn't notice - I think he didn't bother to say anything! There is no way my husband, who notices EVERYTHING, doesn't notice when I get my hair cut/colored. What really pisses me off is when I get my hair done and he says - AGAIN?? As if the grey is going to cover itself - for free.

My husband notices only because he knows I'll be out of the house for a few hours to get it done and he's watching the kids. So he knows when I get home to say how wonderful it looks - but I highly suspect he doesn't really see any difference.

A few days ago I let my daughter (who is 6) get a little bit of her hair behind her ears, colored pink. Very subtle, but still, it was PINK you could see, and he didn't notice until we told him because we didn't tell him in advance we were doing it. Hehe.
