My question is to other moms who have had a child after having Mirena removed.

How long after having the Mirena removed do you have to wait to start trying to conceive? I have had my Mirena for almost 3 years. We plan to have a second baby in the future (several months or more from now) and I just wanted to know so we will know how to plan.

Thanks!

Summary

Once you have the Mirena removed you shouldn't have to wait to get pregnant. Once the Mirena is out you are no longer protected from pregnancy, so you should be able to get pregnant right away.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses! I guess we will have the Mirena removed when we are ready to start ttc. Just have to wait until we are both ready! :)

HI, I also had mirena for 3 yrs and I had mine removed in last may for other reasons. I was put on yaz and in novemeber I went off of those and I am happy to say I am 14 weeks along. It is to my understanding you don't have to wait after having mirena removed to conceive. I'm sure if we had decided when I had mine removed in may we were ready we would of tried then to conceive. Good Luck

Hi,
I actually had Mirena for 2 1/2 years & had it removed in September of 2008. We conceived baby #2 in November 2008. We have a little boy due 7/26/2009:) I was very worried about having a difficult time conceiving number 2 because it took us over a year to conceive our little girl & then actually needed clomid, so I was very surprised & happy that it happened so quickly after having Mirena.

Best of luck to you!!!

From what I understand, you can get pregnant right after you have it taken out. There is not a "grace" period like there is with the pill.

You could potentially conceive as soon as it is removed. I just had mine taken out and the doctor was very clear that if we did not want a possible pregnancy we had to use another form of birth control effective immediately.

I asked my GYN about mine & she told me that conception should take place within a month. I at least want to have 1 regular period before I get pregnant, just to be sure my uterus is ready.

Hi S.. My name is Holly. I am a nurse practitioner in a women's clinic. Once you have the Mirena removed you shouldn't have to wait to get pregnant. Once the Mirena is out you are no longer protected from pregnancy, so you should be able to get pregnant right away. Please let me know if you have any more questions regarding the Mirena. Hope this answered your question.
