How Did You Tell Your Husband You Were Pregnant?

No, I am not pregnant now. :) I was just thinking about it. My husband and I were not trying to get pregnant, in fact we were holding off because they found some nodules on my thyroid and we were waiting to see some results from that. We had went on a trip to Salt Lake City to visit some friends and so my husband could take a continuing education class. While we were there the rental company accidentally assigned us a Hummer 3. It was like two in the morning when we got to the rental company and were super tired, so when we clicked the automatic car door the Hummer is what unlocked for us. We were surprised, and honestly I thought that my husband had made a mistake and booked the wrong car. No, one ever called us and only when we returned the car did we find out they gave us the wrong keys. Any hoo, about a month later I had this really vivd dream that I was pregnant. I was supposed to start my period that day, but the dream was so real. I felt stupid but I went and bought the test and guess what? So my husband had ZERO preparation for it, not an "I am late" warning...just nothing.

So when he came home I had the test waiting, he came through the door and I told him, "Hey honey, the Hummer wasn't the only thing we accidentally got in Salt Lake." Poor guy, I thought he was going to faint. Our friends in Salt Lake had been teasing us they were going to put their "Mormon Mojo" on us so we would have kids (they are mormon), I laughed about it then but now.... :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yeah, I am kinda sad I missed the waiting for it together, but I REALLY thought I was being stupid, especially for not being late yet.

I took a test on a Wed before work and totally freaked out, calling my best friend. Then I bought 4 more different tests on the way home. I asked my husband while I made dinner that if I were pregnant, would he want me to tell him on a weekday or wait until a Friday so he could freak out on the weekend. He said he'd prefer to hear it on a Friday. And yet somehow he was totally blindsided when I told him after work on Friday by putting all of my tests on his placemat at the dinner table instead of dinner.

Although now that I think about it, that might have been a little gross.

It was right before christmas. i knew the morning of becuase i took a test by myself. Then i went out and bought two more. So i had 3 positive sticks (first timer haha). Then arranged to meet him after work at a local mall to do some shopping with his other kids and cousins. I told him i had an early present for him and he had to pick one out of 3 (I wrapped 3 gifts: the pregnancy test stick, a little bootie and a Congratulations Dad card). He picked one and unwrapped it, it was the stick. He looked at me and gave me the best and longest hug ever! ( i still say that even after 6 years of divorce). His daughter said "she is giving you a thermometer?".

With the last one I wanted to wait a couple weeks & tell him on Fathers Day. I ended up telling him with my head in the toilet ,throwing up & him asking me what my problem was. I didn't think I could go on for 2 more weeks without him catching on.

The first time i purchased the test with him, peed on it privately and then looked at it with him. The second and third time i called him crying (he works offshore) and it was a surprise BOTH times. because both of the last two pregnancies were being well "prevented', but none-the -less we were happy as all get out, just a tad shocked.

I stole a magazine from the waiting room and stuck my ultrasound picture in it. That night we were sitting around and I pulled out the mag and told my husband "look what I accidentally brought home from the waiting room" and started flipping through it. When I got to the pic, I said "oh look honey, someone's ultrasound pic. Isn't it cute" and handed it to him. He actually took it (thank goodness) and noticed my name on the bottom after a few moments and then was all confused. His reaction was PRICELESS!!!!

research macrobiotics and thyroid nodules. You can help heal yourself without spending any extra money or invasive stuff that could damage you long term.
Good luck!

I blurted it out in the car! We were driving home from a family party and I had already known for a whole day, I just couldn't keep it in any longer. I didn't want to tell him before the party and be distracted the entire time, so I decided to wait until we got home . . . that flew right out the window!

The first time, I left the positive test on the bathroom counter where he would see it when he came home from work. My girlfriend got pregnant 4 mos ahead of me and he accused me of having her pee on the stick. I just laughed. This time, he stopped home from work in the middle of the morning to get something and I said, "I got some interesting news this morning." "Oh? What's that?" (not really listening) "I'm pregnant." "What? (now listening) No. What? Really? Oh my gosh. OK. I'll call our insurance." Funny.

I wrapped the pregnancy test in tissue paper and gave it to him one night.
We were alone and he looked at it for a minute.
Then he looked at it again.
Slowly it came to him and he said "Is this what I think it is?"
I said, "yes honey. We're going to have a baby!)
He was so happy and he teared up. Aww cute!
Then he dropped the tester because he knew it was a pee test. He said,
"Ewww!". ha ha. I told him it had a cover.

Actually, he told me ... when I took it the second line was not very clear to me ... he checked the trash a little while later after I said "NOPE!" and he asked me to give it another look ... and well, it was positive after all. Talked to a nurse friend and she said that it happens all the time!

We had been trying for about 4 months when my boobs started hurting and some other "symptoms" and as I was complaining about these things to my husband hes all "maybe you're pregnant?" I said, I don't think so. But the more I thought about it I guess I could be! So got a pregnancy test and it said best if used first thing in the morning. So I got up real early, took the test and sure enough...positive! So I went into the bedroom and waked up hubby by saying "wake up daddy..." He's all "huh?". I repeated it with extra emphasis on the DADDY part and then he got it! =)

My second pregnancy I had the florist deliver pink and blue carnations to him at work with a note that said something cute but I can't remember now what it said (that was 9 years ago!!).

The first one I told him over dinner at Charlie Browns, the second (which I miscarried) I just told him flat out and the third is a long story. The night before it had snowed. My husband asked me if I was going to help him shovel. I told him no way! At that time I thought that I may be pregnant. Haven't taken the test yet. He just looked at me funny cause I always help with the shoveling. So before he went outside I told him that I think I may be pregnant and that is why I don't want to do it. Last year I was pregnant and still shoveled and I believe that is why I miscarried. So I was afraid to do it again this time. So that night we went to the pharmacy and bought a test and sure enough got a positive. After that he would not ask me to shovel. He did it all. I would help with the small stuff but the heavier snow I would not.
I always thought about how I would tell my husband, but I just flat out told him. When he was a child he had a really bad hurnia and the drs told his parents that he may not be able to have kids. So the first one was a real surprise for him. He was actually relieved. All of our kids were a surprise. There was no planning in any of them.

I always tested early. I asked my husband before we started thinking about having kids (I was 20, he was 22 when we got married, so we waited a few years). I didn't want to spring it on him too early, wanted to know if he wanted to wait until I'd been to the doctor, etc. He originally said he didn't want to know until I knew 100%. (I wanted to brace myself in case we had an accident when he was unemployed for 6 months--it could have happened, but I'm very thankful it didn't!)

With our first, I wanted to wait until I'd been to my doctor to tell him, but he came home and I COULD NOT wipe the completely dopey smile off my face. Every time we made eye contact my stupid smile got bigger until I was laughing. Hard to hide that one. :) (We'd been trying for 6 months, which wasn't really long but felt like it.)

I can't remember with the second, but it was about a three weeks after he told me we could stop taking pills and let things happen when they happened. We thought it would be a few more months like our first. I think at that point I told him as soon as I had the positive test at home, but he'd been wondering since I'd been easily nauseated for a few weeks.

With our third, I took a really early test (one of those 5 days early ones) and the line was so faint you could barely make it out in strong direct sunlight. He insisted it wasn't a real positive and he wouldn't believe it until my doctor confirmed or I had another test. So I took another. And another. Each day it was darker. I never did anything terribly special, though.

Now, if I were to become pregnant NOW, with a 5 month old, 3 year old, and 4 1/2 year old, and us living in a 2 bedroom apartment...that would be special. :) I would probably just put the "I'm the Big Brother" t-shirt on the baby and wait and see what happened. And brace myself to catch a falling body.

First pregnancy, I found out two days before my husband's birthday. So I kept it to myself and the last present he opened on his birthday was a bib that said "I love my Daddy."

Second pregnancy, I found out while my husband was away for training (he's in the Navy.) He was unexpectedly allowed to come home a few days early and had a horrible time getting back. They waited until the end of the workday to tell him, so he went back to his quarters and packed. He got a flat tire, hit torrential rain, and his transmission was going out.... he boated his car into our driveway at about 2am. He was wired, so I got him a beer and told him to relax. I asked if he wanted to see a couple of shirts I made for our son. He said yes. I got them. One said "Big Brother In Training" and the other said "Brother to Bee" (with a bumblebee on it.) I figured after his Homer-like ordeal getting home that night, he deserved a bit of good news.
