Hello all you wonderful Mommies out there!! I'm in need of your assistance. I just found out that I'm pregnant with our 2nd baby. We had been trying for 2 months. I'm very excited!! We found out together with our first child and I'm really looking forward to getting to surprise him with the news. I need everyone suggestions on creative ways to break the news. (a few things - I don't want to tell our daughter yet so I would prefer her not to be involved, I've seen serving a "baby" meal with baby corn, baby back ribs, etc. It's hot and I don't really want to cook! lol). I would love all of your creative ideas. I really want to make this memorable for both of us!

So What Happened?

To all of you wonderful Mommies. Thank you so much!! I loved all of your ideas!! I didn't (couldn't) wait long to tell him so I didn't even get a chance to read some of the latest ones but I was so excited to see them! Thank you!(and I LOVED the I love Lucy video - it was great!!).
So I waited until we were finished with dinner and had put our daughter to bed. He was sitting on the couch in our living room and I came in and gave him a gift bag and I told him I had a present for him. He said, "For me?". He was already surprised. He opened it and on the top I put a Daddy's my Hero bib in blue (we're hoping for a boy!) and then in crinkle paper on the bottom I hid the positive pregnancy test. He took out the bib and was like, ok? Then I told him there was something else in the bottom. He dug around until he found it and I'm not even sure he had a chance to read it before he said, "Are you kidding me?". I just nodded and then he looked at it again and he was so happy! He had tears in his eyes and started kissing me. It was wonderful!
Thank you so much to all of my favorite mamas for helping me make this a special surprise!

Here is the video for when Lucy tells Ricky ("I Love Lucy") that she's pregnant. It's cute:

Congrats Jessica!!
My husband proposed while playing The Game of Life..where it says stop get married..he stopped and said he could not go on til he proposed.
Maybe you could do the same..where it says "Have a Baby" space and annouce the news to him there. It is a fun game!
Hope you discover some magic in the announcement!

Congrats to you!!! How exciting. I told my husband with a fortune cookie. I made a fortune cookie and the the fortune read... "One makes you a family, two completes your family... a new baby is in your future." Below that I wrote: Lucky numbers 02 04 2007 which was his due date. :)
We went away for the weekend to a wedding and I secretly gave the fortunes to the concierge to have them brought up to our room with strawberries and alcohol free champagne. It was sooooooo much fun!!

Congratulations!!! When we got pregnant with our third child, I put pacifiers in everyone's stockings since it was Christmas. Since it is still a ways from Christmas, you could always do what I did for my 4th.... I got a picture of a bun in an oven on the internet, and printed it out and on the back I put a little saying on it "This bun hasn't been baking for long, but will soon be done and fully baked around Dec. 4th 2008!" I kind of got the idea from a website, can't remember which one, but they suggested putting a bun in the oven and have your loved one open the oven and see the bun, and you can attach a note saying not ready until... or something like that. With our second child I got a little bear and tied the test to it, my husband didn't really catch on right away with that one, he thought the test was a sensor tag lol. I wish you all the luck and congratulations again!!

When we got pregnant with our second baby I mailed a cute post card addressed to our future baby. I wrote a bunch of names that we had been talking about through out the years with our last name and said "... will be expected around November, can't wait to meet papa"

I made sure he picked up the mail from the mail box that day!

(Thank goodness it only takes one day for mail to deliver because it was hard to keep a secret)

I love the card as a memory of that day.
Our second daughter is now nine moth old.

Good luck and congratulations.

Congratulations! A few of the ideas I have seen are; Put some blue or pink jelly beans in baby bottles. If you took a home test, you could wrap it up and gift it to your husband. I know you didn't want to use your daughter, but you can always put a Big Sister shirt on her and see if your husband catches on.

Have a safe and healthy pregnancy!

Hi Jessica,

What a happy news! Congratulations! When I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd child, a way to surprise my husband, I went to an office supply store and bought a package of the Iron-On Transfer. I wrote and transferred onto a white t-shirt for my son with "Big Brother February 2005". When my husband came home, he read it and it took him a few seconds to understand the message and boy was he surprised and very happy.

A couple of months later, we traveled to Germany to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. I did the same thing, but this time, wrote it in German. I put a sweatshirt on my son and half-way through the party, I took off the sweatshirt and have him come up to his grandmother. She read the shirt and claimed it was the best birthday present she ever got!

For your daughter, it would be just another nice pretty t-shirt. For your husband, a nice announcement and for you - a keepsake (I still have mine, wrapped in tissue paper in a box)tucked away.

I took the test, handed it to our son and told him to give the stick to daddy. We were on a camping trip and I took the test behind a bush. My son hiked 100 feet or so to where daddy was and said "this is from mommy." It was very special.

We are trying also... my daughter knows we're "waiting" for a baby. We were all at a toy store once and she found a little stuffed elephant rattle and said "Let's get this for the new baby!" I said "ok, after the baby gets here" & made a big production out of waiting to buy it and made sure my husband saw me put it back. But I secretly bought it when they weren't looking. I keep talking about going back to the store and buying that rattle someday for the new baby. When it does happen, I plan to put it out in the middle of the table when I set the table for dinner so everyone can see it.

BUT... I really like the idea of a PP of just putting an "I'm the big sister" T-shirt on my daughter and just not saying anything else. Heck, this is taking so long I might do both just to make sure the message gets across.

For my first one, I found out on my husband's birthday. So I wrapped a copy of the "What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding" book and gave it to him as his birthday present at a dinner out. He had no idea what it was. He thought it was my way of telling him I wanted to expand and remodel the house!

Congrats! When we were trying for #2, I bought family fridge magnets (like the family stickers you see on the back of cars) from personalcreations.com. I bought one that said Mama, Dada, my first son's name, and "Baby". I kept the three on the fridge for a few months, and after I got the positive pregancy test back, I added on "Baby" - he did't know I bought that one also, and was so excited when he noticed the new one!

You could make a CD with songs only that have the word "baby" in it. Play it for your hubby and see how long it takes him to get it. Congratulations!

I'm so glad you asked this... because I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant (#2)... just waiting to make sure in a few days and am thinking how to surprise my husband. I had the same idea of wrapping the pregnancy test in a box. What you can also do is register on babycenter.com with his email address... and then he'll get an email saying "congratulations your 5 weeeks pregnant" for example. Let us know what you did! and congrats!!

With our first one we had been going through in vitro and I had a blood test and the dr. called me in the car to say I was pregnant before I could even get to my husband. The entire dr. office was that excited for us, they couldn't wait!! So, I went to 7-11 and bought a Sugar Daddy candy bar and put it in the mailbox for my husband to find. I called him while he was driving home and said to get mail since I hadn't had the chance. I peeked out window so I could see his reaction.. priceless! We did the bady themed dinner for our families a month or so later and it was so much fun.. they all loved it. For dessert we did a mini sundae bar and then gave each couple a box with a Baby Ruth candy bar and over the word Ruth I had printed out our last name with the due date... by this point they all got the message. By far the best way is to surprise everyone because watching the reactions is exciting. Good luck.

How fun for you! When I found out we were pregnant for the 2nd time, I wrote a note to my husband and put our first child's name on the return address....as if she wrote the note to her dad...telling him about HER having a new little brother or sister coming...and she wanted HIM to be the first person she told.

HOW FUN....take good care of yourself...and enjoy this wonderful time of life.

P.S.....it was priceless to see his face as he read the "note" from our 2 year old...... !!!

Congrats Jessica!!!!!

Well if you can hold off until Xmas and your not showing too much, I know its a wait, but what I did was get a picture (sonogram) and a pair of baby booties and wrapped them as a xmas present for both my husband, my mother and mother in law and had them open them up together for xmas. Boy where they surprised. The reaction was pricesless, they all kind of looked at each other like, Huh? then they all got it at the same time. I put that the gifts were from Santa. Of course my husband said it was the best present ever!

Just an Idea!

Good luck!

Congratulations!!!!
My husband and I found out together, but we needed to break the news to family and friends. We bought our two year old daughter a "I'm the big sister" shirt and wore it to family dinner. We also toook a picture of her in it and e-mailed it to family out of state. We just said that this was the newest pic of our daughter. It was pretty funny because some figured it our right away and it took others a while. Our daughter didn't really know what was going on (for the pic, all she did was pose and smile and wear her butterfly wings) She just enjoyed the excitement.

Let us know how it goes and I wish you lots of energy and sick free days!

We just told the family about number two. We got both sides of the family together at our favorite Chinese restaurant. (they know us there). I ordered online custom fortune cookies with the message "another grandchild is in your future". I told the waiter to put these out instead of the regular cookies. It was hysterical watching the family figure it out.. cause they didn't get it at first and thought it was a funny mistake at the cookie factory! 12 cookies all saying the same thing!! Hello!! They finally got it and where surprised.

I was able to find a dozen cookies custom made and shipped to your house. Took around a week. But I'm sure you wouldn't want to wait that long.

Is there any hobby or interest that you both share, that you can inject something miniature into. For my first, I am a quilter, and I made him a baby quilt and gave it to him. (I had a bit more time in between thinking I was pregnant and finding out).

We travel a lot so for telling our parents. . .we waited until the next family gathering, which put us right at waiting until the end of the first trimester (we had a lot of pressure from the parents, so we wanted to make sure the pregnancy was pretty viable as it was our first). So because we travel we told them about our next plans to travel (you could hear the groan) to Santa Monica to go to the hospital. . .it threw them off and it took them a whole few seconds to get what we were saying.

I think it depends on how quickly you want him to find out. . .a gift with a onsie in it or some other item will be fastest, or hiding things and seeing if he will figure it out could take a little longer, depending on how observant your husband is. :)

Good luck and have fun.

I told my hubby the same way (or pretty similar) he proposed to me. I took him on a pic-nic and placed a handmade heart envelope (2" X 2") with a baby inside on top of his sandwich which he would see when he unwrapped it. He found the heart oddly familar (he hid my ring in the heart many years ago) and didn't know what to do at first. Then I told him to open it and then shock and happiness took over :)

So take him a on pic nic while the weather is still nice (you can say you just want to celebrate the end of the great weather just the two of you) or recreate all or part of your personal proposal story.
