How Can I Fix This?

Yesterday was a freaky weird day (as I posted)....one of the things that I did (and looking back - since the day was soo freaky I don't know why I even did this!)

Any way - I made brownies, banana muffins and chocolate chip cookies. The brownies came out hard - urgh - they are good now that I put them in a container with a piece of white bread) and banana muffins were good too. However, my chocolate chip cookies (I only baked one tray) taste like they have too much salt in them. I realized after talking to someone yesterday that I forgot to put the brown sugar (BIG TIME DOH!!!!) in the mix (no wonder they looked sooooo "white")....so i fixed that - but the dough still tastes salty.

I know I used the teaspoon (as the tablespoon was in the dishwasher) and only put two in (I doubled the recipe) . So have you had this problem before and if so - how did you fix it? I would hate to have to scrap the whole batter mix because of this.

I didn't use salted butter...looks like I'll be adding more ingredients to make more cookies!!! My boys won't be disappointed with that!

Did you use salted butter? I did that once, I bought salted butter instead of unsalted and my cake came you...well...salty...lol.

The only way I know to fix cookie dough is to combine it with another batch without salt... then if neccesary add more a bit at a time until tastes right...

So you may have a lot of cookies!

You must have added too much salt, or the dough wouldn't still taste salty.

Here's a solution:
Raw potatoes have salt-absorbing properties and are often used as a quick fix when a soup or stew is too salty. This trick can also be applied to over-salted cookie dough. Slice a potato and let it sit in the mixture for a few minutes. Once the potato has absorbed the excess salt, remove and discard the potato slices. Taste the cookie mix to check whether it is still too salty. If necessary, use another sliced potato to absorb more salt.

Otherwise you'll have to endure the extra salty cookies (maybe frost them?) or scrap the batch.

The only thing I know of is doubling the recipe and leaving out the salt.

If you used salted butter, then it's going to taste too salty. That's why you should always use unsalted butter for baking.

use unsalted butter the next time. you can fix the salty taste NOW by adding brown sugar, an egg or peanut butter

What kind of butter or margarine are you using?

I like my cookies salty. Could you put icing on them?
