Hello!

I am currently going through a divorce. I have been living back at home with my mother due to not being able to afford raising two children with little or no help from my ex husband. I currently get child care assistance. I would really like to be able to find out about housing assistance in or around Richardson Tx, but not too far South into Dallas. Do any of you know websites that I could apply online for or know what the requirments are to be able to qualify?

What can I do next?

HUD is a good agency and offered throughout the country. However, it can take a long time. I don't live in your area, so I don't know the wait list. If you are currently not homeless in my area you can wait on a list for 1-3 years for low income housing because they are not easy to get. Your local community action agency can help or Job & Family Services. Low income housing is based on income, availability, and family size. Community Action have money available to landlords through housing improvements and such if they agree to rent to low income families. Your local homeless shelters would also be able to provide you with a list of agencies. Homeless Shelters and Community Action should have a list of Landlords that they trust and offer affordable housing.

I heard about HUD but not sure about it... Also call the workforce and medicaid and ask what they think would be a good idea for housing and see if you can get other benifits!

There is no such thing as HUD in California anymore. They stopped taking applications long ago as the waiting list was already so long. I was told they were just now getting to people who had been on the waiting list since 2005.
Contact your local Salvation Army, they may have a listing of places that are for low income residents or charge based on income. They should be able to give you resources to check.

Hang in there and best of wishes to you!

Check with the Section 8. They always have a long waiting list.
