Hi! I am planning a girls weekend in St. Louis in December. What hotel would you suggest? We would like to be able to walk to dinner, shopping, etc. One friend suggested the Renaissance Downtown. Yay? Nay? Other suggestions? Thanks!

What can I do next?

No real shopping downtown.

Kirkwood has a few. Chesterfield. Historic St Charles.

Psst, Cheryl, the mall closed a couple years ago, there is no shopping in the city.

no shopping downtown. Pretty much zip, zero, zilch. You could do the Old Cathedral, the Arch, etc. Touristy attractions which are great. Even the shops on Laclede's Landing are pretty much gone. Don't know how much is left in Union Station either.....been awhile since I've been there. We visit Soulard Farmer's Market & that's it. :)

a better option would be The Delmar Loop. Walking fun in every direction. Bars, restaurants, shopping, art galleries...you name....you'll probably see it. :)

my niece's bachelorette party is at the Moonrise Hotel.

& thought of one more option: Old St Charles. You could stay at the casino boat & walk thru all of the fun/unique shops on the riverfront shopping area. They're mainly gift shops, a few restaurants, (I think) one brewery, & maybe a winery too. Couple of bars at the opposite end. Very historic in nature. .....the Delmar Loop is more trendy.

Have fun!

Well, I guess what kind of shopping you were interested in could depend where you stay also. Like the others have said there is very little shopping downtown anymore.

If you are looking for a really picturesque street and small, quaint shops I would say Main Street St. Charles...They always have it decorated for the holidays and it is beautiful and historic. I still love going there and have been many times. Lots of good restaurants too. There are one or two bed and breakfasts there and also as someone else said the casino has a hotel, not far down the road. St. Charles is about 40 min. from downtown depending on traffic. http://www.historicstcharles.com/about-us/history/?id=12&...

On the other hand, if you're looking for more mall like shopping there are 2 new outlet malls in Chesterfield...they are nice and have any store you can think of. Also lots and lots of places to eat. There is a Hampton Inn in the area, but not good for walking. Chesterfield is about 25 minutes from downtown. http://www.taubmanprestigeoutlets.com/

Hope you have fun!
