I always here mothers say that they work from home and I have seen many ads that offer "stay at home jobs for mommies", but I couldn't find a "reputable" one that wasn't asking for money up front.

Does anyone have or konw of a reputable company that offers "at-home work" such as a typist or data entry etc?????

What can I do next?

Hi Denise-

I actually posted the same question on this site several months ago trying to find something I could do from home as well after the birth of my daughter (so I didn't have to go back to my corporate job in advertising). Unfortunately, it didn't seem like there were many jobs like that out there and I wasn't interested in selling anything.

Then a couple of weeks ago Good Morning America aired a segment on jobs moms seeking home employment could aquire. They talked about the usual medical transcription jobs and insurance coding (which they didn't go into detail about but seemed good). The job that most interested me was handling customer service calls for Fortune 500 companies. Apparently many companies are bringing their call centers or customer service departments back to the US from other countries due to the demand of people wanting to work from home. You work for one of the companies that they outsource this to and they send you calls. It's completely legit and pays decent. You have to have some basic stuff like a home computer, headset, high speed internet, landline, quiet work space, etc but other than that there are no set-up fees or anything which is a huge plus.

The process to land the job is a bit lengthy but would be worth it in the end (computer skills test, phone interview, training online, etc). I'm in the process of applying with one of the companies so I can work evenings when my husband gets home. You can pick the daypart you'd most like to work. The clients that you'd be taking calls for seem good too(they'd basically let you pick or assign you to one--J Crew, AAA, Virgin Airlines plus many others).

Here is the link to the article on the GMA website that talked about the segment that aired plus the links to the companies they listed who handle this:

Hi Denise

I haven't been able to find any legit data entry work which is very unfortunate. So I am concentrating in my direct selling - Pampered Chef, Thirty-One Gifts (really great stuff) and Cupcake Candles. If any of these interest you, please let me know. I can give you the low down and they all have little or nothing needed to join. :)

Good luck! If I hear of anything in Admin field, I will let you know and I hope you do the same.

:o)

Hi Denise,

I work from home as an Independent Consultant for Arbonne International. They have an impeccable reputation. They have been in business for almost 26 years and are a debt free company with the highest credit rating available from D&B. Arbonne's Chairman and CEO Bob Henry was just named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2006.

Arbonne has experienced exponential growth over the last 5 years. 70.6% in 2002 over 2001, 111.8% growth in 2003 over 2002, 98.2% growth in 2004 over 2003 and 164% growth in 2005 over 2004. The numbers are on track to be even greater this year.

This isn't typing or data entry but the income potential is much greater. There is a fee of $29.00 to sign on with Arbonne as a wholesale buyer or a consultant. This covers the cost of the materials that are sent to you to help start your business.

I know you were looking for something with no start up costs and I'm sorry if I'm way off by responding to your message. I just cringe to think of another Mom getting paid by the hour for data entry or typing when there are such greater opportunities out there. You owe it to yourself to step out of your comfort zone and take a look at something that will do more than just help bring in a little extra cash!

I would be happy to talk more with you. My number is ###-###-#### or email address is ____@____.com Luck with whatever you decide to do!
