the above link lists some actual jobs--you have to be careful because many people who are in multi-level marketing companies (such as Amway/Quixtar, Mary Kay, Arbonne, etc.) have been well trained to avoid words like "selling" and "recruiting" and they talk around the facts to convince you that you can actually make money with a concept that is essentially flawed.

If you want legitimate work from home, please keep in mind that legitimate employers will not ask you for money for anything.

M.,

I have worked from home for a data entry company for about a year now. It's great. There are some requirements (typing speed, number of hrs worked, etc) and you have to go into the office a few times a week to drop off and pick up your work. This is legit and I am so thankful for the extra income it has provided me and my family. If you are interested, let me know and I will give you more info. Good luck!!

I just started a home party biz with Do-Re-Me & You! just a couple months ago and I LOVE IT! I sell toys, cds, games, books and puzzles all for kids! Most everything revolves around music and my daughter gets to enjoy all the perks of free educational toys. I work mostly from home promoting it and an occasional home party out (day or evening).

I have so much to share about it, too much to type. But you can earn a FREE starter kit just by hosting a party. For more details, check out my web-site and contact me for more questions. www.drmy.net/kzagarri (not a scam, I promise. I'm just a mom like you)

I also have an ad listed on this site under employment.
Thanks for looking and good luck with your search!

M.,

First I'd decide what type of work at home you want. Do you want a job? Do you want a direct sales business? Do you want to provide a service based business?

Once you've researched those options and have narrowed it down to one then it'll be much easier for you to locate what would work great for you.

There are many great work at home options online...sadly there are many more scams too. I've been working part time from home for about 5 years and full time since 2004. So, it can happen.

It takes trial and error and learning, but nothing good comes easily, right? hehe There are sites out there that are good resources... one of which is www.internetbasedmoms.com (not mine).

Hoping that helps and wishing you all the best.

Hello M.,

I agree that the first thing you should look at is a hobby or something you've wanted to learn more about. I started making soap as a hobby with my girls but we ended up with so much that I decided to start my own business. It's very easy to do however it won't get you the kind of income you need to live comfortably RIGHT NOW...unless your business is an over night sensation. :) It builds up gradually.

Having your own business is great for flexibility though and it is possible to do it on a part time basis so you can still find a work from home job to keep you on your feet until your own business is stable enough to support you and family.

Stay away from those envelope stuffing schemes and get-paid-to-take-surveys. Been there, done that...they are worthless. If you are a people person and like to meet new people then maybe a direct sales business is for you? Besides selling soap, I also sell healthy coffee, tea & cocoa. I initially added it to my product line on my soap website but the coffee took off so fast, I actually started to use it as a stand alone line. The coffee practically sells itself and I make up to 50% on each sale.

If you can find a product like that, it would be ideal. Just do a little research first and know if a certain product would be good in your area. For example, I used to sell health products. In my rural area, not many people are concerned about their health (at least not in a natural/herbal preventative sort of way) and the products cost to much. Coffee, on the other hand, is something people drink anyway so it is a big hit! :)

Finding work you can do for others at home is not something I have ever looked into. I know people who do medical transcription from home but am not sure how it is going for them or how they like it. Maybe look at Monster.com or some other job hiring site and see if they list work from home jobs.

Good luck!

M. i have been in the same position that you are in. I decided to invest in owning my own Tastefully Simple business. Until the 31st of January to become a consultant with tastefully simple it is only $99. For that $99 you will get your start up kit that is valued at almost $400. Calculating it you would only need to sell $275 to recoup your business investment. It sounds like you have outside sources to sell the products to without even having to have parties, i.e., school, moms group, family, friends. After a couple of months I even started my own website and over the last several months my website has generated anywhere from $50 to $200 a month without me even having to do anything but have it and people find me. The great thing about my business is once people buy it the eat it and run out and they always want to buy more so with each sale you make you have reorders that come in as well. It is a great opportunity and for only $99 you can't beat a deal like that to own your own business. Let me know if I can help with anything and check out my website. www.tastefullysimple.com/webmdavis

Good luck and best wishes. Hope to hear from you soon.

M.,
I would be happy to share with about my home business through Arbonne international- it's not a false advertisement, I don't "sell" in the traditional sense of selling, I just share with people about this opportunity and these amazing products. You can find out more by visiting www.arbonne.com or e-mail me and I'd be happy to explain more about this business. It's not a get rich quick scheme, it does take work and effort, but the financial rewards have changed my family's life as well as thousands of people accross the United States. When looking for a home-based business it's important that the company be a well established, highly respected company- which Arbonne is. It's also crucial that the company have products that are consumable and in demand- Arbonne grew by 164% in 2005! We are a 27year old company- so we are very stable- but above all our products are Pure,Safe, and Beneficial. There are presentations on the website that you can view to learn more, I'd be happy to visit with you and share how this business has allowed my husband and I to be home raising our 2 kiddos together!

God Bless,
C.

What are your hobbies?

The reason I ask is because you could turn your hobby into a home based business. That's what I did. I am a photography nut and a few years ago I started my own home based photography business. (www.vickibyerleyphotography.com) I have been pretty successful and I only work part time, around my 4 year old daughters schedule. I'm a widowed parent so I am the one that has to keep the household going. When I decided I wanted to work from home, and keep my little girl out of child care, I looked toward my hobby. I wanted to do something that I love to do. I did not want a j-o-b. I wanted a career, something I could continue to do once my daughter was in school and then out on her own.

So, what are your hobbies? Are they something that you could turn into a career? Do you like crafts, sewing, making things, or anything of the sort? If you do, you can always start by placing items on eBay. You can also find just about any sort of "community" out there, forums, etc, that will help you get your business off the ground. Start up costs will depend on what you do, of course.

Good luck in whatever path you choose.

Most home based businesses you must invest in something to get you started. I have found one that I think you would truley love. Its with a company names Melaleuca. Here is a website that you can check out to give you more of an idea. www.stayinhomeandlovinit.com They usually run a month deal and it is cheap to get started. You are pretty much replacing the household cleaners in your home for fraction of the price that are not harmfull to your little one unlike the ones sold in the stores. There is no selling or stocking. I am not trying to persuade you into doing this but it is something you might want to check out.

Hi M.! Say, where do you live? I spent about a year looking for what you're looking for and the only stuff I could find involved expensive training or investment I didn't have in order to sell things I didn't like. So I'm going to school too! As a mature single mother I have found that the old fashioned ways are indeed the best. But, keep looking, if you want it and it is God's will for you, than you shall have it. Buenos Suerte!

Ask yourself this question...Do you want a J.O.B or do you want a life??? When you are seeking something that allows you to stay at home with your children or whatever the reason may be then you need to research it. A lot of people have responded. A lot of them are good companies. A J.O.B is something where you are told what to do and how much you will get paid to do it. It is easy work. You don't have to really think to do it...You are told how to do it. This is something that I did not want. If you, for some reason, cannot do it..meaning you go on vacation, you get sick, something happens to family, etc...you do not get paid. Now, if you own your own company you can work when you want to and if you did it right you still get paid. The companies below that you have to pay to start....you are buying your own business! That is all you are doing. Just like people who own their own franchises...they have to pay to do that. When you own your own business...you decide how much you want to get paid and you have job security because you are looking at the boss in the mirror. I would definately not disregard some of the network marketing businesses. Look at their statistics. See how many people are actually making money. See how many people actually make it to the top. Look at how they make money. THen decide what you want to do. Good luck!

Hi M.. I have been selling Avon from home for about 2 months now. I have made a full time job out of it. I love everything about it too. I get to spend a lot of time at home with my kids and make money too. Just like any home based job you get out of it what you put in it. I had to deliver some brochures to a few businesses the other day and I take my kids with me. They are a great conversation starter too. You get to meet lots of new people and stay at home and answer the phone or get out and go places. Some of the best places to start getting customers is at the mall, local park, salons, etc. Just this campaign I have sold almost $400 worth of products. And I get to keep 35% of what I sell. Just go to www.youravon.com and where it says Find a Representative, click on that and enter your zip code or town. Then it will come up with a representative in your area. They are all e-reps, but some of them have phone numbers listed under their names. Just call one of them and they will help you to become a representative. They will even work with you to help you get customers. The woman that I am signed up under actually gives me customers that call her for Avon products. I went from not knowing anyone in my town to knowing quite a few. It is really awsome.
