just keep giving him the meds, take off as much clothing as possible, sponge baths with wet cloths (but if he gets too cold, he may begin to shiver and the temp will go up) feed him icees ($2 at the store) and keep him down, not active. Keep in mind that temps under 102 are benificial and the elevated body temp helps the body to fight off the germs. personally i dont give my kids fever meds until it is 102*

good luck

Don't worry too much, unless it goes past 102 and won't drop. If he's really uncomfortable, keep alternating tylenol and motrin every three hours. Otherwise, just give him the motrin every six. Let him wear what's comfortable - if he's cold, bundle him up, if he's not, let him wear a t-shirt. Make sure he's drinking LOTS of clear liquids. He's probably fighting a virus and it needs to run its course.

If it doesn't drop in the next 24 hours, call your pedi and talk to the on call doc or nurse - that's why they're there. If you don't have a regular pediatrian and you're really concerned, take him to the ER. But I'd give him another day if the fever doesn't really spike. Good luck.

Make sure to call the 24/7 nurse advice line through the hospital! :) LOVE those folks!! The dosing on the bottles for tylenol + ibuprofen are LOW. They'll be able to give you the correct *max* dose for his body weight.

Every time my son spikes a high fever (103+) that I can't get down with the normal dosing I give them a ring and get the right dose. Knock wood, every time I've gotten the max dosing into him (double tapping them, as you are, at the same time)... I've gotten him down to 102 or below.

don't underestimate the power of fluids - he needs to drink even if he doesn't want to or he will never get better. Even if you have to "feed" him water with a teaspoon keep giving him the fluids!

Jane & Elizabeth (below) are very smart women. I agree with their posts whole-heartedly. Hang in there. Let it run it's course. Worry when it gets high and stays high (103 and up) even with meds. Take him to the ER at that point.

Fevers are the body's natural defense against infection. My pediatrician believes in letting the body work and doesn't show any concern until the girls go above 104.4. As long as he doesn't seem to be too uncomfortable, isn't lethargic, and is getting a decent amount of fluids in him, he should be ok. If things do persist and his temp goes above the 104.4, then get him to an ER immediately.

It's going around. High fever for days. Unfortunately it is usually a virus
and all you can do is keep child comfortable. Could last a week.

100 is not a high fever it is low grade, a common fever ranges from 101-103.5, and a high fever is anything over 103.6

If it goes up to 104 and does not come down quickly after treating (tylenol, motrin, lukewarm bath, cold liquids) to 101/102 then you need to call the doctor
