It happens to all of us at one point or another lol!!! I used a sitz (sp) bath or tucks pads to ease the discomfort. Preparaton H is also very good. Good luck.

Let me tell you- I feel your pain. However, I've always had issues w/ Hemmorhoids- so i knew going into the whole pregnancy gig- it was only going to get worse. If it's any comfort- if you've only got one- you're LUCKY! i've got MANY.
A couple of things that help- warm baths w/ Epson salt, helps the swelling. Sit on an ice pack- sounds awful- but sometimes even if it just numbs the pain- its worth it. I've tried preparation H and Tucks ointment- I don't have a favorite- sometimes they help. The best advice i ever got from my physician was to push them back in after a bowel movement- it sounds absolutely disgusting- but you would not believe how much relief it can give you. I am a week overdue right now and mine are at the utmost worst they've ever been- so i definitely can relate- maybe try some of the above remedies- somedays one thing works- somedays something else does. Best Wishes!!!

Don't be embarrassed! It happens to so many of us pregnant ladies. I did not have them during pregnancy, but the pushing from labor caused them for me. It took about 3 weeks for them to go away. During that time, I used Dolcosat (so you don't push with any "movements") and tucks pads(every time I went to the bathroom). Hope that helps!

I too had nasty hemroids w/ my son. Mine went away pretty quickly after I had him but they really got bad during delivery. I just use Hazelwitch wipes for mine - keeps them from hurthing-... My Nurse Pract. gave me some advice that I was to afraid to try but I'll pass it on. She had worked for a homopathic clinic years back and they use to tell people to scrap the inside of a ripe banana peel and apply that to the hemroids and it would reduce it. GROSS I know thats why I never tried it. GOOD LUCK...

Preparation H cream helps a lot, but get the Hemeroid pads that are like pure witch hazel, generics are fine. They will give those to you in the hospital too for pirenial pain after the birth. Work like a dream.

When I was pregnant (and even after delivery), I struggled with hemorroids. I never really had them with my first, but definitely with my second. Anyway, try witch hazel pads (also called "hygenic cleansing pads"). You can get them in generic form, and they are even safe to flush down the toilet (OK for septic systems too). Just make sure they are 50% witch hazel. They really help. You can also try the creams, like Preparation H, but I wouldn't suggest using that while you're pregnant. I guess talk to your OB about that one. Well, hope that helps!

First thing is to try and release the stricture that is causing the hemrrhoid. If you have a removable shower head you will have better results. Put the water to just hotter than you think you can handle and spray directly on the area. It will sting right at first but then it will get better. Leave the water on there for about 30-45 seconds if you can. Do this 1-2 times a day and within few days you should be felling so much better. I had TERRIBLE hemroids after my first child and I was crying all day in pain...had to lie in my bed with a folded pillow case between my buttocks :) No standing, walking or sitting for me then....it hurt that bad. I read this treatment I believe in a MAYO medical book and it WORKED!!! By the next day I could sit and walk with more comfort...after this you can try the TUCKS pads or creams to treat any itching or soreness that will linger for a bit. But first, get it to shrink or the other treatments might not be as effective as they could be. Hope this helps!!

Hemroids are so common, don't be embarrassed. I had my first child when I was 21 and I had them. It is one of the least fun things to deal with when you are pregnant. Definitely talk to your doctor to see if there is something you can get for them as you will probably get more during labor. Take a bath and if you can put some creme on it and sit with a nude bottom, exposing it to air helps. Good luck with your delivery!

Honey, I feel for you.
They didn't bother me much during my pregnancy but afterwards, it was worse then labor. I went to my OB to have them looked at & 3 of them were thrombosed which means they have clots in them. She said to see if they went away on their own, if it got too unbearable, to go to the ER. So, I ended up in the ER where they opened them & took out the clots. It has to be done in the ER or by a surgeon due to bleeding.
Not trying to scare you or say that's what you have but just be aware it can happen.
Try everything that was mentioned here first to see if it will help.

Good luck!

I am the authority on hemmorhoids. Its not exactly something I walk around telling people but I have been through the worst hemmorhoids, even my doctor was shocked. I was pregnant with my daughter and they were getting really bad that I was unable to sit at all. I walked very slowly all the time. Everybody thought I was walking that way because of the baby, butthat wasnt the REAL reason. Hopefully yours aren't that bad yet because it gets very hard to get rid of them once they get like that. Have you tried hemmorhoid cream? You can get it all over the counter. Also try taking a warm bath often.
I did all that and it was still awful. I finally went to the doctor and they removed one and that was the worst pain ever (worse than childbirth). That still didnt do too much. Then I mentioned to my ob how awful they were and he took a peek and I even shocked HIM! He bumped up my c-section for THAT reason!
So, I hope you can get rid of them soon but sometimes its the pregnancy that causes them and they may not go away until the baby comes. I hope you dont have to go through what I did.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm pregnant with my second and never had any problem with the first even after birth then last month what should appear. What I did that worked was to do whatever I could so I wouldn't have constipation. Then every evening I took a sitz bath with a little Ivory Snow detergent. After I had a BM I did the post-natal routine. I used a squirt bottle to wash and then patted dry, then I wiped with a Tuck's pad.(Anything with witch hazel will work.) After a few days I was healed and now I use a Tuck's pad after BMs as a precaution.

Don't feel embarrassed, it's just one of those things that happen to people pregnant or not. I started getting them during my pregnancy and I told my Dr. She prescribed a cream that had a steroid in it, she said that it worked stronger than over the counter creams. I loved it and I still used it post pregnancy. I would usually put it on and then used a tucks pad for cooler relief. I found that other products wore off, especially if you are actively moving. My sister suggested to use desitin or other baby butt products and you know it actually worked, because it stayed on longer and I felt more comfortable. After a couple months I no longer had a problem with them. Don't feel bad about asking your Doctor, what matters is that you are comfortable, especially at 8 months pregnant.

You can purchase ointment over the counter or ask your physician. I get them without being pregnant. I would talk to your Dr. because I know that this is quite common in pregnant woman (my sister had them). So it is normal and do not be embarrased to ask.

I know this is a very gross situation. I noticed that the plan over the counter products work great for calming them down but they don't completly go away. I also develped them in my 8month of pregnancy and my daughter is now 21 months. I used tucks pads and preperation H cream. I also talked to my midwife about getting them. She was great for answering questions. It is very common so do be imberassed. Hope that helps.

Happens to the best of us...don't worry! I had a terrible time right after giving birth to my son. My OB prescribed an ointment called Analpram-HC (internal & external). Definitely ask if it's ok to have while pregnant. Took care of my hemmorhoid within 2 days! In the meantime, Tuck's pads & cream will give some relief. Good luck!

I got really bad with my first pregnancy because I was also too embarrassed to ask for help but then the second time around I asked the Dr. and she said to take Colace and that would help prevent them from getting worse let them shrink up. I tried it and it was wonderful. I wish I had used it during my first pregnancy because then I probably wouldn't have any at all.
Best Wishes,
J.

A nurse from the maternity ward told me after my daughter was born that the quickest, easiest cure is to simply push it back in. (Yikes - I'm glad this is at least semi-anonymous...) All hemorrhoids are just inner rectal tissue that got pushed out due to excess force, and a pregnant body is going through LOTS of "excess force"! Unless there is an infection or tear in the tissue, you should be able to just simply tuck it back inside and experience immediate relief.

Hope that helps!
