thanks for all your responses. I didn't realize i could get a Rx and got a supository from my OB. Also, i tried the vicks vapor rub... i was very scared to try it but in the end its the only thing that helped w/the pain (and vicodin, yikes!). still not gone yet though!!!!

Call your doctor for a prescription. I had very bad ones with my first pregnancy and they gave me a prescription. I can't remember the name as it was 5 years ago, but it was so much better than Prep. H.

I get 'em bad with every baby. Proctosol is a prescription Hydrocortisone 2% creme that works most of the time and pretty fast too, Recta gel is the same, but it has lidocaine in it which is a topical pain killer, so that one's good, although it wasn't on our preferred meds list for our insurance so the copay was outrageous. If the gels sting for a few minutes when you put them on then you might have a fissure which is a little cut on the anus and those hurt about ten times worse than just hemorrhoids, for that use neosporin, you can get the kind with the pain killer in that too. Stand as little as possible, lay when you can, preferably on your back, try not to lift. Fiber helps more than you would believe and so do the sitz baths. Oh, how I love sitz baths, add some epsom salts if you want to and do them at least twice a day, three times if you can manage it. Good luck and congratulations!!!

I feel your pain! After my 3rd, i had horrible hemmoroids and the pain was worse than all three pregnancies combined. I had every cream, oint.,and gel and the best thing was soaking in plain old warm water. I just grabbed a book and sat for an hour at a time. It was perfect because the baby slept a lot and after about 3 days i was 100% better. I highly recommend it!!!! Just buy a sitz bath and filler-up!!! Good luck and congrats!!!

I had them too, and after a C-section, I can say that there was no pain from the surgery, but the roids! Woo-wee! That's where all of my pain was from, so I can understand. I also had them during pregnancy.

The suggestions that I see on here are fine, but I suggest getting a prescription for a suppository. I was dead set against those until that last bout, and I'm glad that I used it. If you don't get the suppositories, then at least use the cream to "inject inside" your bottom. But definitely let your doctor check them out and write you a script.

The sitz bath is a must too. I also suggest tucks, but all that is is witch hazel on a swab, so it's all about the witch hazel, really, which helps cool and shrink them.

Congrats!!! They'll get better, trust me! :)

Get a prescription ointment from your OB...I had serious ones from 6 months on with both pregnancies....the best so far was a product called....umm it's a goofy name but "Recta gel" it has 2.8 hydrocortisone and works wonders...Prep H is very mild and not for major hemmorhoids. And they can linger for years....but not as painful.

Hi S.,

I have been very lucky to escape 4 pregnancies with no 'roids, so I can't offer any advice there... my SIL had a terrible time though and had surgery to correct hers...

I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS on your new baby :)

Good luck!

S.,

Contratulations on your new little one! I had hemmoroids also after childbirth - I know it REALLY hurts! The Tucks and Prep H will help, just give a little more time. You mentioned you're sitting in warm water - have you considered adding a little epsom salt? I've heard that moving between warm and then cold water helps too.

If you don't notice any improvement in a couple of days, give your Doc a call, there might be something stronger they can prescribe to give you more comfort.

I'm not sure but seems to me mine only hurt for a few days and I never had to have surgery - but they don't go away, they just heal and hopefully won't flare up on you again.

Kiss that beautiful baby and remember this will pass.

hugs,

W.

i didn't get them, but my husband actually gets them sometimes (stress and he's a runner). he uses the prep H cooling gel and says it's better than the regular. (wasn't sure which one you were using) he also increases his fiber intake whenever he gets one. also, my aunt (nurse) said to take flaxseed. hubby says it's kind of flaky and gross, but he mixes it with water or propel or gatorade. those all seem to help minimize it and the cooling gel seems to help make him more comfortable. and remember not to strain AT ALL when you poop and don't sit or stand for long periods of time (mix it up - sitting/standing). that's all i got. hope it helps. and CONGRATULATIONS...on the baby, not the hemorrhoids. :)

I'm pregnant with my 2nd and have them already at 4 months, off and on. SHOOT ME! My dr said prep H and sitz baths should help. Drinking a lot of water and eating fiber too, and she said using Konysyl (like Metamucil) will help too. :) We will get thru this! Congrats on the new bambino (a). -A..
