Help Me Find a Good Sunless Tanner

I'm in desperate need of a good sunless tanner to use! I tried the "Mystic Tanning" and it made my feet/face orange and uneven. I would even be willing to pay alot if it works, beacuse I'm fair skin and hard to tan on my face, hands, and feet. The only part that gets dark is my stomach. I look silly walking around in a bathing suit that way :) Any moms have any ideas. Thanks a million

I like the gradual self-tanners that take 3 to 5 days to get you tan. The other ones seem to leave streaks. My favorite one at the moment is Mary Kay's Subtle Tanning Lotion. I am a Mary Kay consultant, so if you are interested in trying some, contact me. I have also used Dove's Gradual Tanning Lotion and liked it too. Hope this helps!

I have used Loreal Sublime tanning lotion for the past 5 years.....after trying every other product out there. I love it because it gives a nice brown hue (no orange) and it doesn't streak. Be sure to rub it in evenly (it has a brown tint and sparkles so you can see where you have put it). It costs about $10 a tube, it does seem to be on sale alot. You can buy it anywhere, Kroger, Walgreens, etc... I love this one because it really gives a nice color, without the streakiness or orange look. Loreal sublime lotion (medium natural and dark look wonderful). Brown tube (like toothpast tube) with dark brown cap. They also make a gel, but I love the lotion the best.

I just started using a sunless tanner this summer for the first time ever and have been very happy with it. It's called Made in the Shade by Arbonne. It sprays on so I don't get streaking and it moisturizes so my skin has a glow to it. It has an SPF of 15 and anti-aging properties that help with sun damage. Because of all the stories I'd heard about self tanners in general I didn't know what to expect, but because of all the good stuff it had going for it, I tried it and was impressed by the results. You don't purchase it at stores but through an Arbonne consultant like myself. I'd be happy to have you sample it first to see if it works for you,

Arbonne is a European Health and Wellness company that makes botanically based products for baby care, sun care, hair care, nutrition, makeup, skin care, detox, herbal remedies and aromatherapy. It's a wonderful company with a lot to offer. The business allows me to stay home with my kids after leaving corporate America. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a job change or getting back to working after kids are in school.

Hi Dawn,

I posted this same question about a month ago and I received some very good responses. It seems like every tanner that I tried left me very streaky and orange looking. Based on a response I received here, I started using St. Tropez. It comes in a set with an exfoliator, a lotion and the self-tanner. The self-tanner is dark so you can see exactly where you are applying it and I have never had any streaks or orange color from it. I always have a very natural dark tan. I love it! I have a very fair complexion and I am hard to tan also and this is the only thing that has ever worked for me. I googled it and ended up buying it off of Amazon I think. It is not cheap but it works the best out of all the self tanners I have ever tried.

Hi Dawn! Arbonne has a sunless tanner that works well, and I've also used the Jergens too. and it worked well. Make sure you wash your hands so you don't end up orange! I usually just use a bronzer on my face as opposed to using the tanning lotion. Arbonne has a great bronzer too! Check it out at www.arbonne.com. They have great products!

Dear Dawn,

I am a self tanning expert! LOL. Actually, I do get a really good, even color with self tanners, and I have a few tricks to tell you about. I worked as a make-up artist for over 25 years, and I always told my clients about these methods.

I also love L'Oreal's Sublime Glow, but I like the creme as opposed to the spray. The Sublime Glow creme has a bronzer built in, so you can see where you have applied it, and it dries quickly so you dont have to wait too long to dress. Here are my rules:

First, shower and exfoliate with either an exfoliant wash or with a shower scrubbie. Towel dry and allow a few minutes (5 min should be fine) for any excess water to evaporate from your skin.

Apply the self tanner, beginning with your shins and calves, and then gently run your hand over your feet and around and behind your ankles. Once this is done, work up from your feet and gently brush the product over your knees. Then do your thighs in the same manner. Be sure the application is even by applying it in vertical and horizontal (working around the leg as well as up and down the length of it) strokes until it has absorbed well.

Starting with the legs gives you the chance to wash the product off your hands and wrists before applying it to your arms and body.

Move on to your body and/or arms, following the instructions above for even application. Remember to use the vertical and horizontal method for a natural look.

Then do the face and chest, again, using even, circular, up and down, and side to side strokes.

Wash your hands thoroughly to remove any excess product, and do anything else you need to do before getting dressed.

Once you have finished dressing/applying make-up, apply a smallish dot to the back of one hand. Then, gently rub the backs of your hands together while holding your fingers together, being sure to get even coverage from wrist to cuticles. This will give you a natural look to your hands, leaving the untanned look between the fingers and on the "webs" between them. If you have any excess product on the backs of your hands, just set a tissue on them and gently press for a second to remove the excess.

I know that sounds like a lot of steps, but it really goes fast, taking only a few minutes, and ~ VOILA! ~ perfect tan!

I love the Loreal Sublime Glow spray. It's not orange. You just spray it on about 8-10 inches away from your skin. It's a fine mist, but you don't want to get too close and spray one area too long or it won't be even. Occassionally, Walgreens and CVS have it on sale. The everyday price is about $7.99 a can which can last about a month. Look in Sunday paper for coupons too.

I LOVE the sunless tanner from Arbonne. I am very pale, and everthing - including Mystic -streaked and turned me orange until I used this one. It is a mist and it works! Added bonus is that is doesn't turn your clothes or bathmats orange. Also, doesn't have the awful smell. Look up my webstite at www.allforlivingwell.myarbonne.com and as always, everything is 100% money-back guarantee. Blessings! T.

I use a gradual tanning lotion after my morning shower everyday, that way I will at least have a little color all year...Jergens is best because it has a non-chemical smell to it. During the summers I use L'Oreal Sublime self tan lotion about every other day and it creates a nice color and has sunscreen as well. I use a gradual tanner for faces on my face and apply a powder bronzer over it. This is just the best way of getting a tan without damaging your skin and avoiding cancer.

I agree with the others on Arbonne. I am very fair and I love it! Nothing else worked like it did. I have used arbonne's products for 18 yrs now and just love them and the company. I have been a rep over 3 yrs. I signed at first to get the discount. If your open I have samples of some products but not all. Like not of the self tanner but arbonne does have a 45 day guarentee. You can return or exchange it. I have only had one exchange in the last 3 yrs. Here is my site www.passion4more.myarbonne.com I just did a blog on the self tanner at cafemom too! lol So funny that I saw this question right after! The self tanner and our whole Before Sun line is anti aging too! Botanically based and vegan certified!
Here is arbonnes site too www.arbonne.com
I will PM you with my cell and email!

Hi Dawn! It seems like I have used every brand there is. I like the Jergen's Daily Moisturizing lotion the best. I have also had good results with Loreal Sublime Bronze. It will make you look really tan really quickly. I've had a lot of people compliment me on my tan when using that brand. However, almost everything I've used except the Jergen's lotion doesn't do a good job on my feet.I ended up with an uneven spotty tan on my feet, but it works well every place else. I have a friend who swears by Coppertone's Endless Summer. She did get pretty tan using that, and it wasn't orange or uneven. It's just a little too pricy for me. I could go to the tanner and get a good tan for what it would cost me to use Endless Summer. If your willing to pay a little more for one, then you could try this one. Anyhow, good luck. I hope you find a brand that works well for you.

I think Arbonne makes a fantastic sunless tanner. You can't buy it in stores, you have to find an Arbonne dealer. That shouldn't be hard, though. There are lots in Indy, just look on Craigslist. It comes in a spray bottle, and I have NEVER had streaking or an orange look. I love it. It also has spf 15, which is kind of nice. I like to pair it with being outside, because it prevents me from getting burned, and it makes me look tan!

I started with a base tan at the beginning of the summer, and started using the Jergens Glo (with firming in it too) daily. My husband noticed what the lotion did more than when I would go to the tanning bed. I noticed it too, and the smell isn't bad.

I tried a spray tan at a salon this summer. Mixed results. Deep bronze color, but sometimes blotchy on my feet.

I have also tried Sublime gel tanner from Loreal. Takes about 30 min to dry. Good deep tan, very even, but the drying factor makes it hard when you have kids running around. I kept finding myself saying, "sorry honey, I can't pick you up, my tan is drying" How shallow does that sound?

Now I'm using Neutrogina tanning foam. Dries in like 5 minutes, but only gives color 3 shades darker than your natural skin tone. So I use it every night. Only takes like 5-10 min to apply. So I'm not super tan, but I'm glowing and not glow in the dark white.

Good morning Dawn,

In the past I've used the sunless tanner by Mary Kay. Its a lotion and for me did a great job. The only con if you will is that it will make you hot while its drying so have a fan ready. The dry time was about 15-20 minutes.

Good luck!

The best stuff out there that I've found is the Loreal Sublime Sunless tanning spray...not lotion, the SPRAY. I LOVE it! You have to put it on while standing in the shower because otherwise it makes the floors in the bathroom very slippery, but it give me the absolute best color and no streaks since you're just spraying it on, no rubbing! Easy and works good. A couple of tips though, wrap your hair in a towel before you use it. Maybe it does nothing to your hair, but with all that mist flying around, I don't take the chance. Also, don't get dressed until your skin isn't tacky anymore. What I usually do is before I even get out of the shower after I've dried off, is throw my hair into a towel, spray my body down (the stuff is great because it sprays at any angle, even with the bottle upside down), then I get out and dry my hair and style it before I get dressed. Try it! It's a little pricey like $8-$9 a bottle, but you get about 6 applications out of the bottle. By the way, Neutrogena makes a "micro mist" that is usually right beside the Loreal and is a couple $ cheaper, but it's not nearly as good.
