Okay mom's I know this is way out there and believe me there is much more to this story but a friend of my brothers became homeless and was sleeping in her car. She's 6 months pregnant. Her fiance is in the service and not due to be released until late august. She moved here from Lubbock, and as I said this is a very very long story but my question is I know there are places that help with food, and housing here in McKinney but is there anyplace that donates old cars in workable condition to get her back and forth to doctor appointments or to find a little temporary part time job to help her have a little spending money. I have agreed to let her move in with me for a couple of weeks and trying to help her but I don't make it payday to payday on my own but I did tell her I would try to find out what services or places can help her. She's called a couple but was told that since she lives with me she isn't considered homeless. So do any of you have any ideas or any suggestions of where there might be options for cars or help with things that with a new baby coming she can talk to I would really appreciate it. Before anyone says anything about my not helping, I don't even know her, I met her thru my brother who knew her a few weeks. She hasn't seen the daddy of her baby since he found out she was expecting. She is already engaged to a young man in the service who when he gets out won't have a job or transportation as well. I couldn't stand to think of someone sleeping on the streets 20 years old and a baby on the way, especially for the babies sake so I'm doing what I possibly and taking chances so if anyone can just give us some ideas I can help her from there. Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

The only thing I can think of is contacting local churches for help, or your own if you're a member of one. There's the Samaritan Inn in mckineny, I think they're a food kitchen, but might be able to provide some info on other options.
Good luck!

First of all, I wanted to say - you are wonderful for helping this young girl! You are doing so much and I don't think you've realized how much you are doing. Don't expect more than you can do - you are doing great. Unfortunately I don't have many ideas other than were mentioned. You might want to check out Allen Community Outreach and I know other's have mentioned the Samaritan Inn. When you are online, there is a site called freecycle where people post items that they are getting rid of. All you have to do is respond and go get the stuff. I've donated a lot through that site. Good luck to all of you!

The Samaritan Inn in McKinney is a great place. I volunteer there regularly. However, it is a first come first served basis. She will have to pass a drug test and a background check. Good luck and God Bless you both.

I agree the Samaritan Inn is amazing!

Also, call 2-1-1 and let them know what she needs and they will point you in a direction. This is a resource service to connect people to help they need.

She needs to go to the Samaritan Inn in McKinney. They will be able to hook her up with services and possibly a place to live. It is on HWY 5 just north of 380.

I would check with local churches. Our church in Allen has a food pantry and the Relief Nursery of Collin County also meets there. They might be really good resources for you. Our Pastor's name is David Moses and the number at the church is ###-###-####. Give David a call and I am sure he can help you out or point you in the right direction. Your an amazing lady to do that for a stranger!
