Help Needed with Donation of New Toys from My Daughter's 7Th Birthday
Hello Fellow Mommies,
My daughter made the decision to take up a donation for new toys at her birthday party to give to needy children. Now I am in need of a place to donate these toys that will also provide her with a "hands-on experience" of helping others. I thought we were going to give the toys to a place called Jonathan's House, but they will not let us drop off at an actual house, just their corporate office in downtown Dallas. That in no way will give my daughter an experience to back up what I have taught her about children who are less fortunate than her. Does anyone know of a place that could use some new toys? We live in Allen. Thanks!

Have you tried Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children or any of the other local hospitals?

Hi, J.,
My daughter did the same thing for her birthday in February. We chose the Children's Advocacy Center in Plano, which serves Allen as well. It's on the SW corner of Los Rios and Park (might be 15th) and the Rainbow Room is housed in that building.
If you're not familiar with what they do, check out their web site at www.cacplano.org.
Have fun - I know we did!

There is the Samaritan Inn in McKinney which would probably be a great place for this. What an awesome gift that your daughter is giving!! Here is a link to their web page.

That is so sweet and selfless of your daughter. I just recently learned of a ministry called The Christmas Store that is accepting donations of new toys for less fortunate families to give to their children. The web address is:(www.christmasstore.org) You may also try McKinney's Samaritan Purse for more recommendations. Please let your daughter know that her acts of kindness made my daughter's heart smile. I hope she will be blessed, as well.

I would hold on to them until Christmas as well. The hospital I am working in (big Baylor downtown) every year has an Angel Tree - where you pick a name from it with child's age and interest and then you drop off your donation around a particular timeframe. It goes to very needy families. I am sure other hospitals do it too.

I would hold on to them until Christmas time -- there are so many organizations that need new toys. And Christmas is just right around the corner.
I know Salvation Army Angel Tree needs help. And the Douglass Community Center in Plano does their own Christmas Angel tree for their kids in their community - those less fortunate. We went with our church group one year and got to actually help pass out our presents to the kids. This was like at the beginning to mid December.
