Does anyone elses children out there have migraines? My son ,3 yrs, just started clinching his head on one side above the eye and started screaming that his head hurt. He did this 3 different times today and I know that he hasn't hit his head or anything I have been sitting with him all day it just came on from nowhere. This is EXACTLY what happens to me when I get my migraines. Anyway I don't really want to medicate him if I don't have to so how do you other moms deal with this issue, any advice is appreciated, THANKS!!

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for all of your personal stories they really helped. I am going to watch him and if it happens again I will take him to the doctor. It makes sense that it is maybe allery related because he is on perscribed meds for allergies. I was just really hoping that it isn't migraines because they do run in my family, my mom gets them so bad that see loses sight for hours at a time and I lose sight out of one eye for a long period of time. I just would never wish migraines on anyone. Thank you all!!!

My son is 10 and has been suffering with Migraines since he was about 3 also. It took me 8 different doctors to finally realize I was being honest about him getting headaches. We finally found out his were allergy related. Since he has been on his meds and stopped drinking milk he hasn't had one migraine since. Many migraines are also brought on by some foods. I would ask doctor what foods they are because off hand the only one I can remember is chocolate, and I would keep a diary of what he has been eating, it just may be as easy as not letting him eat certain things.

T.,
First off you can not assume that it is migraines. You should take him in and see what the doctor thinks. However, with that said my son has migraines (diagnosed by a doctor). Unfortunately those pesky things are usually hereditary believe me my son thanks me regularly. You need to chart your son's diet. Everything that goes in his mouth write it down. Most likely you will find a pattern there. As with most migraines diet is often a culprit. You may also consider getting his eyes checked. If my son gets to bad I do give him tylenol if he has the opportunity he will lye down for a little bit also. I hope some of this helps. Good Luck!

Chiropractic works great for this! I see a bunch of kids, with great success, and without medication. If you would like to chat about it...let me know! You can find a chiropractor in your area who works on kids by visiting www.icpa4kids.com

T.~My friends daughter had this and the doctor said it was something in a food she was eating. So for a week at a time she had to take away something. Like one week it was no chocolate, next it was no dairy. Eventually they found out what is was but she doesn't have migraines any more. You might want to consult your doctor on this.

My story is similar to Toni's. My son and husband suffered from migraines (and headaches and backaches in general) until our Naturopathic Doctor told us to remove all processed foods. Tall order, but the payoff was well worth it. No dairy, no refined sugars or flours. Poof. All symptoms were gone and no meds were EVER used. Also, TONS OF WATER got placed into their diets. My son (now 13) drinks 2 - 3 liters of water per day. My hubby does a gallon plus. Yes, it sounds like a lot, but we are a mega water family and have found that it naturally flushes out the toxins that are causing imbalances in our systems. We don't chug the water, but drink it throughout the day and at meals. Good luck and God bless, T.. P.S. Dales Health Foods (in Flint on Miller Rd or your local health food store) might provide something natural/homeopathic for his pains until his diet is stable enough to be the cure itself.

Before trying any of these remedies or suggestions, I would first have him diagnosed. I don't want to scare you, but there are worse things out there than migraines and it should be determined that is NOT what he has.

I suffer from severe migraines, and Ryan would literally mimick my symptoms, especially since he was with me all the time. It took a while for me to figure it out because I thought he might need glasses. Hopefully that gives you a litle comfort.

It sounds like you could give him some ice to put on his head or take him to a doctor to find out if there is some special medicine he could take.
