Having the Hardest Time Planning a "Make Believe" Party

It's late, and I've had a few drinks, (lol) so sorry if this is mispelled. I am trying to plan my almost 3 y/o's bday party. I usually just do a character party, and that's so easy! My daughter is so into her imagination that it only seems fit to do a "make believe" party. I have the cake planned, but my issues are the decorations, etc. Her cake will be a lion and a spider (her immaginary friends) holding hands with party hats on and a castle on the side with a witch flying by (this is how into it she is!!). She's also so into pirates, mermaids, treasure, Dora,Mickey Mouse, witches, Barney, rockets, space, the moon, and the list goes on and on... Any creative suggestions for games, decorations, etc.? I'm lost with all the things that she's into. She's mostly into mermaids and rockets, but my 5 year old nephew just died and he was obsessed with rockets, so I doubt it would seem appropriate to add it, but she really does talk about going to the moon every day. I am usually so creative, but I'm finding a block with this one.

What can I do next?

Since it is a 3 yo's party I would just decorate with a complete mish-mash of things from her imagination. A little girl like that might enjoy a wall projector of the stars, if you used it to 'decorate' a wall or ceiling it could also be a present. I'd use lots of cellophane streamers and cool lighting effects and hang up a moon somewhere!

As to games I think her like for treasure would stand up to a simple scavenger hunt. You could have the guests make their own party hats from their imaginations (lots of construction paper and yarn). Playing dress-ups is a ton of fun at age 3, especially in a group. Good luck!

shoot, forget about games - get the girl a big trunk full of dress-up clothes! ballgowns, a space suit, all kinds of stuff. go nuts. and then let the kids go nuts. for decorations why not just do a color theme. she will have a blast.

You could choose some games. You can find suggestions for games by googling games for a 3 yo. And then add characters to the game by saying the character's names. I think one game that I remember is called red rover. It goes as nearly as I remember something like red rover, red rover won't you come over. there's more to it than that. But you could change the words to something like Barney and ---------(can't remember the little yellow ones name. lol) say come on over.

You could do a simple treasure hunt. Hide little dime toys from the party store all over the living room or the yard and give each child a sack in which to collect the toys. Have extras to add to the sacks of kids who didn't find as many or help all of the kids hunt. this could be their party treats.

I would suggest a dress up party. Does she have friends coming to this party? If so I would put on the invites to dress up in their favorite make believe outfit. have a fashion show. forget games. and decorations are highly over rated unless you just make a runway and each kid can walk the runway. have them tell you about the outfit and you can do a little bit of a "spiel" about the outfit. your range is pretty far out there from mermaids to rockets lol not sure your going to find anything in the decoration/theme isle that will cover both lol

Hmm, what about a Wizzard of Oz type theme? I mean there are wicthes, lions, etc. Maybe make like a golden trail leading to a castle? Perhaps along the way (the golden trail) you can add other themes long the way....? Or what about adding a little fun by having the guest dress up as some of these characters?

If you have a tent, you can use it as a castle and your yard is the forest where her lion friend lives. You can find bugs in the yard. The dollar store has bug jars. You could have an adult collect them and show the kids. Have a tea party in the tent and serve cake if you want. My daughter had a Camp rock theme and they all sang songs from the movie and played in the tent. They had a blast. Party favor suggestions: animal foam masks that kids can make themselves and keep instead of goodie bags. You can find them at a craft store, Target, party stores.
Have fun!

You could also do an obstacle course or some sort of maze in your house. You could do “Old Fashioned” games like Pin the tail on the donkey, Musical Chairs or crank up music and have a dance party… We recently went to a party like this and the kids had a blast.

You could also move furniture, throw blankets over stuff... let loose and make it like a secret clubhouse (for many). Sounds like everyone needs a fun day.

Take care B., I know it you have been having a tough time, and you are always in my prayers. We are here for you!
