Gross Motor Skills and Other Activies for 9 Month Old

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have suggestions for activities to help build my son's gross motor skills? He's scooting across the floor on his belly (not yet crawling), rocking back and forth on his knees, and *just* starting to pull up on tables, ottoman's, etc. His pediatrician recommended that we introduce more activies to help with his gross motor skills.

Also, any other suggestions on how to play with a 9 month old would be greatly appreciated. I read to him, go on walks, go to the park, play with stacking toys, puzzles, etc., but I'm starting to run out of ideas and feel that sometimes he is getting bored. Any recommended activities and/or toys you love?

Thanks so much!

S.

Both of my kids loved the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Learning House. It is great for babies learning spacial awareness and becoming more mobile. It has a door to go through, open and close, and play peek-a-boo, a mailbox with "letters", a flower that spins, a funnel, a shape sorter, a radio, and many other toy features. This toy is great for teaching and entertaining babies of all ages, as long as they are a bit mobile and all the way through to 2 years old. This toy is a bit expensive but everyone that has it seems to think it is well worth the price for the hours of entertainment and imaginative play it gives both boy and girls.

If you have some extra money, the programs at Gymboree and Little Gym are excellent for developing motor skills.

Also visiting with other children will stimulate him. My 10 month old granddaughter loves to go see her cousin who is one and a half. She gets so excited and watches every move. If you don't have young relatives try getting a play group together with another child.
