A co-worker of mine just gave birth to their third son. What is a good gift? I can get the baby an outfit, but with 3 sons now, they probably have everything. I thought of diapers but I'm not thrilled with that idea. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Maybe you could get a basket and fill it with all sorts of little things. Lotion, baby wash, wipes, a cute onsie, bibs, a rattle... Things they will need regardless of how many kiddos they have!

When it is the 3rd child, I almost always buy the newest Disney or animated movie out on DVD. What new mom couldn't use something restful to do with all 3 children.

There are a lot of great answers below, I just wanted to add that you could also consider getting something for the older siblings as a way of making this a whole family celebration, not just the new little one that may leave them feeling left out. Not sure what the age difference is, but it's great to come up with toys that the older ones can work so that the little one could watch. (a spinning tops, puppets, kinetic toys etc)

Golly, if it were me I would like some cash! Mom's give up everything for their children. If she had an extra twenty bucks or so she could take a little while for herself, maybe get her hair cut professionally or buy a new shirt without spit up stains.

I'm expecting my 5th... my first 2 are about 10 yr apart. So, My 1st & 2nd seemed like my 1st in a way w/ needing everything. With this one... I had to get a new crib (due to all the ones I had were on the recall list), a new carseat (because the baby one I had was only a 3 point harness & didn't buckel into the base right after being use on 4 kids). But with my 3rd & 4th - mainly all I wanted was the everyday stuff - diapers, baby laundry soap, wipes, bath supplies (for the baby or me), bottles, ect. Or something special for the baby a cute towel or outfit, a special stuffed toy or any toys for that matter.

The thing my youngest liked the most was a half bear half blankie he got from a great-aunt... we had to get a second one for him for his 1st Christmas. He loved sleeping with it when we first switch him to sleeping in his room alone, but he has since given them up.

I've also seen a lot of post about giving frozen meals to moms that are having babies other then the first - which is always a big help. New moms don't have a lot of time to cook or do much else w/ a baby & other kids that need attention in the house. So, even a gift card for a resurant that offers take out would be a good gift.

As a Mom of 3 small boys, I appreciated when someone gave me a gift for me to relax with. We had everything "baby boy" that we needed. A little "Mom" time was greatly appreciated. Maybe a Scentsy warmer with a bar of scented wax from the spa collection. It may be an "out of the box" idea, but we all can use a little "Mom" pampering. Congratulations to your co-worker!
Three boys will be a constant source of entertainment and joy!

They might appreciate having one new cute outfit for their newest son since he's probably going to have lots of hand-me-downs. I loved the Target gift cards I got from people - she could buy food, diapers, clothes, etc., and it's so nice not to worry about balancing your checkbook when you're sleep-deprived!

There were a couple cool gifts we received with our 2nd (though she was a different gender, so we needed a lot of stuff).

1. Someone found a company that makes what appear to be blocks with personalized information about the baby (name, birthday, weight, height, etc).
Here's the info on the company: http://www.craftefamily.com/default.asp
Our daughter's name starts with a "K", so that's what hers looks like.

2. Restaurant gift cards
It was so much easier to run down to Chipotle for dinner than it was to cook. And, it was often really nice to get out of the house when I felt like I couldn't do anything else all day.

3. Target gift cards
Every new parent needs something related to the baby: infant Tylenol, baby Q-tips, new wash cloths, etc. So, having the gift cards was very appreciated to get what we needed when we identified what it was.
Hope that helps. What a nice gesture.

Since it is the time of year we are all brought to the awareness of earth day and using safer products and getting chemicals out of our homes and with a new baby it may be a blessing if you sent her a basket full of non-toxic cleaning products. Yes I am a Shaklee Distributor and I am reaching out to all who have an interest in making a difference. I give this gift to new brides, new home owners and new babies, just to mention a few. It is truly a gift from the heart. Let me know what you think.

With the crazy schedule a newborn brings, it can be difficult to have special quality time with the other kids. Maybe put together a "family movie night basket" for them with microwave popcorn, a 2-liter of punch, a family-friendly movie or two (or a gift certificate to Blockbuster for a few rentals), and a gift certificate for someplace that delivers for dinner.

We just had our 3rd boy last June and it was still nice to get new outfits and little toys for him, because after going through 2 boys before him, things were starting to get worn out. Anything you come up with would be great and appreciated I'm sure :)

For my sister's third child, in hindsight, I should have gotten something for HER since she already had all the kids' stuff she needed (in fact, more than enough of everything and didn't really want anything new for the baby). Looking back, I should have gotten her a gift card for a spa so she could get herself a massage or hired someone from a cleaning service to go to her house once or twice shortly after the baby was born when she wouldn't have had much time or energy to do the cleaning herself. Just a thought! :)
