Gender Reveal Party. Present or No?

My brother in law and his wife are having a gender reveal party. pretty casual, their parents, 5 brothers families, and a couple friends. I think they are doing the 'cake' reveal where they cut into the cake to see if its blue or pink.

Do we bring a gift? or do we bring 2 gifts (something blue and something pink) and return one later? have you ever been to one of these, did they open gifts like at a shower?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

They are taking 'wagers' before the reveal, I think it will be fun, we're a very competitive family (in a good way). It would be fun to tie some sort of a girl/boy gift to the wager/betting theme. Any fun ideas?

Nope that's what a baby shower is for........

Sounds like a fun party. go and enjoy! If you're invited to the shower wait until then for the gift.

It's not a shower, is it?

Unless it is and they've registered, I wouldn't get a gift beyond a hostess gift - bottle of sparkling cider or something.

Are people really doing this? I think it's a little ridiculous & self absorbed, considering they'll most likely have a baby shower, as well. What's the difference really? I say no gift.

I've never been to one, but I wouldn't bring a gift. It sounds like since there are so many people to tell, they just thought it would be fun to get everyone together and tell y'all at the same time. Enjoy the cake, and save the present for the shower.

If you feel the need to do a gift (I've never been to one of these), I would get some baby basics that either gender could use. Like a package of diapers and wipes, or something for the mom-to-be....some nice lotion, etc.

Sounds like fun!!!

No gift...and am I the only one who finds this trend a bit indulgent and silly? Must we now throw a party for everything? I mean geez louise our calendar gets filled up pretty quickly with legitimate celebrations (birthdays, holidays, showers, baptisms, confirmations, first communions, bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, graduations etc.) that are tough enough to squeeze in. I'm glad this hasn't made its way into my social circle because I would not attend.

Well, I'm a smarta$$ so I would go find the most "gender neutral" item that I could and bring it to the "gender reveal" party.

hahahahahahahahahahaha

This is a cute idea - but no gifts in my opinion - if you just can not come empty handed how about sparkeling cider instead of champegne for the celebration!

How exciting! I've never been to one of these but I really don't think you need to bring a gift. If you do want to buy something, maybe a pretty blanket that could be used for girl/boy. or you could bring a dessert or drinks.
Have fun!

I think a hostess gift is all you should get them. Or offer to bring a salad or a cheese plate if you wish but I don't think a baby gift is called for. I mean seriously is it getting to the point where we have to have a shower gift then a welcome home gift.... and now a reveal gift. Seems a bit much. If it's just an occasion to get together, like I think it really should be, then nothing more than a hostess gift is called for.

If you don't want to go empty handed, you can bring a book.
