Has anyone been to Gatorland in the Orlando area? Can you give me some info on it? Is it worth going and for what age groups? My kids are 6,5 and 3. All of them love animals especially the 6 year old.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I heard great things about Gatorland, thanks for all the input. We planned to go on Saturday, since it was going to rain late in the day. However, Mother Nature decided it should rain all day and it didn't stop before we had to get our night flight. I am going to add this to our To Do List for the next trip out. Thanks again.

Hi, I just came from there in July. I went when I was 14 yrs. old. I am now 28 with a 7 yr old child. It looked different, but it's set up nicely. There is an area where the kids can run around and get wet, so you might want to bring the bathing suits along. There is little walking and a train that you can take to go around the facility. There are three shows, a petting zoo and a bird area. The kids should enjoy it, we did!!!

I took my kids there about 3 yrs ago (or more) my kids seemed to enjoy it. My son wasn't as young as your kids at the time, however he did like it. There's a water park there as well - and I would recommend taking a 'dip' on a hot day.

There's also the animal 'zoo' where you can feed the animals and pet them.

If I recall correctly, there's an area where you can also feed the lorikeets - you have to pay for the nectar juice they eat - but it was fun to go into the cage area and have them fly to you and feed them.

Gatorland has a website if you'd like more information:

www.gatorland.com (there's also a coupon available on their site - under park hours and prices)

I also found tickets on ebay for cheaper - not sure if there's any on there now - but I'm sure you and your family will have a great time there!

PS.. I just checked ebay - there are buy one get one free coupons for admission on there.. that may help you out in the long run!! Save some $$

Have a great time!

Hi T.,

I have been to Gatorland when I was about 15. It was interesting (my cousin was the alligator "wrestler"), but not worth a trip just to see Gatorland.

And be aware...back then, much to my surprise, Gator Nuggets were really alligator meat.

Have fun!

T.,

I went to Gatorland when I was a child, somewhere around age 8. I loved it! Of course who knows what it is like now, and I'm sure my memory is shady at best, but wanted you to know that from the perspective of a child, it was a lot of fun.

Honey, I am mother of 5 grown children, and grandmother of 7, ages 11-3weeks. I am in Fl every winter Nove-April. My one daughter lived near there. I did not think it was worth anything to go there. You are better off going to Animal Kingdom, especially taking the safari and back station areas. All you see at Gatorland are gators! Your children are way way way too young to even consider going there. It would not be a fun experience. good luck with your trip.

We moved last year from Orlando. Right before we moved there was a big fire at Gatorland and it was closed. I would check to see if it is reopened (I would think by now it is). I've never been but from what people people from Orlando said it is a fun little 1/2 day trip. So I wouldn't make a trip to Orlando only for Gatorland.

I have gone there twice. My whole family loved it. My son was 5 and my daughter was 2. They absolutely loved it as well as myself. I thought it burned down though.

Definitely worth a visit! Your kids are the perfect ages for Gatorland. The fire was about 2 years ago. The last time I was there was only a few days after it reopened (Thanksgiving weekend 2006); by now I'm sure you'd never even know there was a fire. As others have said, I don't know if I'd make a special trip just for Gatorland, but if you're in the area anyway, it's a great off-beat type of thing to do & your kids will probably love it. Have fun!

Hi T.,

I went to Gatorland many years ago in my 20's with a boyfriend.....At first I thought "I can't believe he wants to go to Gatorland". BUT, It was such a great place!!!! From baby dinos to ancient ones, they did gator tricks and I remember there was a little path to walk along. I really enjoyed it. I think you and your family will also. It's a nice little 1/2 day trip!

Here is a website with lots of reviews written by people that have been there. It sounds like the kind of place all of you would enjoy....kids, as well as adults.

Hi T.
We (my husband and I) went to Gatorland when we went to disney. This was pre-kids, unless you count mt husband! He loves gators, and any reptile. I didn't think I would like it that much, but I really did. It was kind of like a zoo. They had other animals and things there. I really enjoy animals, so I was plesantly surprised. This was about 12-13 years ago, so i imagine they have improved since then also. It was a nice park. I think most kids would like it. We just went to Disney last Oct. with our 4 yr. old. We didn't rent a car this time so we didn't go, but we definatly would have had we rented a car. Have a good time!

Hi T.-
I visited GatorLand last year when my son was 1 1/2. We had a great time, but it was HOT. My only suggestion to you is to bring stuff to eat and drink because there wasn't a big selection of food. Also I believe the drinks were expensive. They have a little area there that have sprinklers, so bring your bathing suit. I also suggest to bring bug spray because of mosquitos. We had a great time there. They also have snakes and other reptiles.
