Garbage Disposal

You don't need to call anybody untill everything else fails:) It happens at home all the time!
The reset button is underneath but usually that is not the problem, but try it anyway, it is the easiest one. Then there is a small hole underneath too, you are suppose to use a thin allen but if you don't have one, you can either go to Home Depot and ask for the one you need (they know) or try with anything thin, a crochet hook, or a very thin screwdriver (nothign that can break), if you can push it might work. Otherwise, get the allen and try both ways, usually you have to unscrew with it but you can try both, make sure the disposer is off when you do it. Then try again. Also make sure that the sink is not plug, sometimes you can't see anythign but something might be cought inside (like egg shells), usually you can fix this by unscrewing with the allen key.

Hi! You've probably already gotten the response you need, but I'll post anyway...
You should have a metal thing (I think they call it a key, but it looks nothing like a key; it's a metal stick about 3 inches long with a bent part at both ends). Go under your sink and to the bottom side of the disposal motor. There should be a little hole you can put one end of the key in to get it to "unjam."

I've had this happen before, there is a reset button at the bottom of the garbage disposal, but if you're having trouble getting to the bottom of the disposal I'm not sure how to help. I guess it would depend on your sink set-up. Is there a handy neighbor or a co-worker that can come over to take a look. It sounds like a pretty easy fix and most plumbers or professional handyman will charge just to come over and take a look.

We just went through this right before Christmas. Ours was doing the same thing. We woud take the little allen wrench that was given with the disposal to turn and help fix it or "restart it" I guess. We ended up having to replace it. They aren't really that expensive, and honestly wasn't all the hard to replace....just make sure you read the directions. My little brother went gung-ho and did it all w/o, but mom and I put in our 2 cents. We were able to get ours at Home Depot. They've got all kinds. If you don't want to buy a new one and see if it's still fixable, see if you can find an 800 # somewhere on the disposal under the sink. Hope it works out. Good luck!
