Garage Cabinets from Loews/Home Depot

I have been looking into garage cabinets from Home Depot and Lowes and all the reviews on-line are not very good. I'd love get some here as opposed to having custom cabinets put in to save some money but I'm not sure of the quality of them or how impressed I really am of them. Do you have garage cabinets from Lowes or Home Depot? Which ones do you have? How long have you had them? Have they held up ok?

On the other hand, if you're in the Phoenix area, did you have custom cabinets put in? Who installed them for you? Would you recommend them?

Thanks!

So What Happened?

We had custom cabinets made and installed. I was able to find a good company that was very reasonably priced. They look great. I wish I would have done it a long time ago. Now we're going to do the floor ourselves but what I didn't think was the amount of water you need to use when cleaning the garage floor. The cabinets rest on the floor, Not sure how we can do this without ruining them.

well I am going to go another direction for you. If your looking for garage cabinets just for storage why not go to Restore its a habitat for humanity store all their profits go to habitat. and lots of stores / companies donate stuff to them. We got all of our bathroom cabinets brand new there for about $50 - $35 each and they all still had the lowes stickers on them. also got marble counter tops for $5 each. You could be helping on so many levels to buy like this. helps habitat for humanity, also helps keep things from going to landfills and really how fancy do you want the garage cabinets to be?

I used Lowes for my kitchen cabinets and everything else in kitchen. I would not spend the money on new cabinets for the garage. My cabinets are great. There must be someplace that sells cabinets that people have taken out of kitchens (which were perfectly fine) at a very discounted price.

Since garage cabinets can be really basic, I would look into having them made. My brother-in-law built sturdy supports, used good plywood for shelves, and put some lighter plywood (I think that's what they are) doors on with hinges and some simple hinged latches. The shelving was so sturdy that he could lie on the shelves. We knew that we could always upgrade the doors if we ever had the money. Being in the garage, we never had to. I loved having the exact size shelves that fit my garage and my containers and belongings. Just be sure to have a picture or have the person show you what kind of materials he would use.

Ask around for a good handyman/carpenter-type.

Hello! Picking up on Sherry's answer, there is also Stardust in Phoenix where cabinets etc from demolitions go that still have life in them. Like any 2nd hand store, it is hit and miss, but might be worth a look?
