Flour Bugs Not in My Flour?!?!

I have been finding bugs in the house lately. I found some in my daughters carpet when I was cleaning her room, I have found them on the walls a couple of times, on the ceiling and just about everywhere else. They're not by the dozens by no means, but they're still BUGS! They look like bugs that you would find in your flour not throughout your house. I have animals and our house is lived in of course. Embarrasingly when an animal has had an accident I have noticed more of them around the area ... has someone stored a disgusting gift for us somewhere?? But there is not a smell either so at this point I just want them to go away. I just want to know if anyone knows what they are, how I got them and how I get rid of them!

What can I do next?

I had this problem a few months ago. I found the moth larvae in some rice in my pantry. I threw out all of my rice. Then I noticed little cocoons inside of my foil and saran wrap boxes. I ended up throwing almost everything out and thoroughly cleaned everything in the pantry. So far no more moths in the house or little worms...YUCK! I don't know how this starts. This could be the problem you're having. Some moths are in the pantry, some feed off of your clothes. I believe they are different type of moths and can be hard to get rid of. Good luck!

Hi M. I had this problem a while ago and looked through everything and couldn't find where they were coming from. It ended up they were in a box of dog treats. Now I make sure to store the treats in a container and haven't had a problem since. good luck!!

Do you have an old box of cereal in you cubboard? I once had this problem. I found an old box of oat cereal in my cupboard. The bugs were coming out of it. I threw it away and never saw another bug. Good luck to you.

Hi M.,

Are you talking about those gross little caterpillars that turn into those tiny moths? We had those once and if that's what you have you'll need to look at every single box of everything in your pantry. They love laying eggs in cereal boxes, dog biscuits (check any dog treat canisters, we bought bulk biscuits at the store last year and they were air sealed in the biscuit container - I won't buy bulk again!), opened bags of crackers, dry mixes for pancakes, cake, etc. Basically go through and look for a web material and if it's in there or you see a moth or caterpillar toss it. If in doubt toss it out. The first time I had one in the house I had no idea what they were until a girlfriend came over and told me. And I had to pitch about everything but the cans. Once you get rid of their food source you can just start smashing the caterpillars and moths and you'll be rid of them in just a few days. Good luck! It's annoying as all get out!!!

I have seen these things before, and I think they are what people call bed bugs. I have no idea how they form or where they come from, but I have found them if there is a pile of laundry that hasn't moved for a while. I have way too many people staying in my way too small house, and that is when I have found them. I don't know how to make them go away other than keeping the clothing piles down to a minimum.

I am sure money is tight but perhaps a house cleaning company could come in and do a top to bottom. Or even if you can hand off the children to inlaws for the weekend to do a top to bottom scrub. Carpet, walls, etc. then I wold call a pest control and just have them do a one time treatment. Also give your pets a bath just for good measure!!!

ok Y. lady this sounds like someone elses story i heard recently.dont know where you bought the animal feed from but i am pretty certain that is where these bugs come from.unfortunately now you will have to get someone to come in and fumigate your house and ask a vet abt this as it will make everyone and the animals sick.a lady from maryland had recently purchased abag of dog food from a store she had dealt with for a long time and it contained wheat which is what flour comes from and it contained those bugs.so that is where those bugs in all probability came from
