Financial Assistance - Omaha,NE

You contact your county's financial assistance department. You can only use EA once a year. You do need to qualify for the assistance. If you do not qualify, but are at risk of eviction, you need a letter from your landlord that without assistance you are at immenent risk of being evicted. If you do not qualify, you could also ask if they would request assistance for you through the St Paul Organization. They have grants for about $500 per family per year, but individuals cannot apply for it, a worker has to refer you.

You're in NE so I'm not at all familiar with the resources out there but I know that you can dial 211 anywhere in the country. That is the emergency assistance information number and they can help you get in contact with places to assist you.

Contact Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Omaha. Catholic Charities is nationwide, and well networked with both private and government social service agencies. They can do all the footwork for you, so you don't have to. Even if you move or need services in another city or state, they can help you. They are also very family friendly.

Just another idea...you could try contacting your local Community Action Agency.

Someone at these organizations will probably have other social services locations for you. You could also ask at your church if you attend one, or even if you don't... many have emergency funds especially if they are larger. All of them are going to need you to fill out documents to verify your need and will have income-based guidelines.

Call a big church, like Brookside, Trinity or Christ Community and see if they know who to call for help. Also try the homeless shelters. They sometimes have money for emergency rent assistance. Look in the phone book under Homeless.
