Favorite Child Wagon and When You Started Using

Hi moms!

I'd like to get a wagon for my son, and am not sure which ones to get. Walks would mostly be on streets or gently sloping grass. It seems like the Step 2 and the Radio Flyer are the most common. Are seatbelts important in the wagons? Are there any with shades that work (I read the shade cover for the radio flyer is really flimsy)?

Also, when did you start using the wagon with your kids? Is 7-8 months too early if they can sit up on their own?

Thanks a million!

What can I do next?

A decent stroller for young ones is so much more practical.
My kids never had a wagon... The one we had from when I was a kid we use to haul stuff across the yard during yard work...
Skip the wagon unless you are going to haul stuff for a picnic.
My choice - the radio flyer... Ours is 45 years old and still works great!

YMMV

We purchased one of the Amish wagons...they don't tip and last a lifetime...we have had ours about 10 years...it doesn't come with a cover, but we bought a clip on umberella that works well...the sides come off and my husband uses it to haul stuff, so it really is worth the initial cost...I hope this helps :)

I have the Radio Flyer Pathfinder wagon for my son. It has 2 seats that can be folded down and both seats have seatbelts and cup holders. The one I have doesn't have a shade cover though. This was an easter gift my son received from his great grandma last year when he was about 9-10 months old and we started using it then, he is now 2 and still loves it! I don't think 7-8 months is too early as long as they can sit up unassisted.

Using a wagon at this age is more than "they can sit up on their own". How is your childs balance? Riding in a wagon can be bumpy! If you are going to use one, you may want to use something for support like a rolled up blanket. Also, not a good idea to use one with a seat at this young age.

We got the All Terrain Carrier Wagon just before my son out grew his stroller (about 2 yrs old). He'd want to walk, but he'd get tired quickly, and the wagon was great for pulling him around (and he could lay down and take a nap when he wanted. We'd put in a few beach towels, and our water bottles (and the wagon fit just right into our mini van) and we went to county fairs, Renaissance festivals, and parks.

He's out grown it a long time ago, but it's great as a garden cart for carrying my tools and gadgets about the yard.
There are some other great options wagon wise right now.
A garden wagon is about the same size, comparable in price, and can carry a lot more weight. With an indoor/outdoor cushion and/or a foam mat, and a towel or two, it will be very comfortable and you can hose it down to clean it and you'll use it for years to come.

There are some clamp on umbrellas that will work on anything (we had one but didn't use it much, it was a bit of a bother to use). Seat belts were not a concern for us as our boy just climbed in and out. By the end of the day he was usually sleeping and a lot of people commented how comfortable he looked.
