Hello,
I was wondering if any of you moms failed the one hour glucose test but passed the 3 hour test. I am so worried that because I am a little over weight and 38 years old that I could get Gestationla Diabetes... did you follow the 3 day carbo load diet before the 3 hour test like they say to, which in my opinion is just asking for GD. Did you just follow a diet that you would normally eat before the 3 hour test? Help!!!

With my 2nd baby I failed the 1 hr. I passed the 3 hr. i followed my normal diet with the exception of not eating for the recommended time the morning of the test.
Try not to stress about it. Gestational diabetes doesn't mean you'll have problems after pregnancy, just more careful diet for the pregnancy.

Hi Mama, I have failed the 1 hour test with my last 2 babies, and then passed the 3 hour test just fine. I didn't over indulge in carbs I just made sure I had one at each meal. I didn't think about it too much like that I just tried to have a sandwich on those days and cereal or waffles for breakfast. Good luck and don't forget as book to read :)

Hi Cee Cee,

I failed the 1 hour glucose 'screening' and passed the 3 hour test. The way the doctor/nurses explained it to me was that the first one was just a screening; not an exact test. I did not do anything different as far as my eating went before the test; in fact I found out on a Tuesday I believe and had the 3 hour test the next morning and all was fine. Even if you do have GD, all will be fine; the doctors will monitor you even more! Take care, T.

Its pretty common to show signs of trouble on the first test, but not the second.

I think you should follow your doctor's instructions carefully - if you don't you may end up with poorly interpreted results. The levels of glucose they are looking for are calibrated to the types of food they are telling you to eat. If you don't think you'll feel good with the carbs, ask your doctor in advance if there is a different way.

Good luck!

Hi Cee Cee,
I failed the one hour glucose test but passed the three hour one. I do remember having to eat differently to prepare for the 3 hour one. Do follow the diet instructions for the test because if you don't do the carbo load than you are asking for more trouble down the road. Your results will show differently and could cause unforseen problems that could have been avoided.

Hi Cee Cee,

I just barely failed the 1 hour (I believe the tolerance is 140 and I was 142) and passed the 3 hour with flying colors.

Do you know how much over the tolerance you were? Did you eat any sugar before the test? I had a banana and orange juice (pretty much all sugar) before my one hour which resulted in the elevated levels.

I followed a regular diet leading up to the 3 hour test, and fasted for 12 hours prior.

Best of luck to you!

Hi, I was 39 when I had my first child almost two years ago. I failed the 1 hour test and had to do the three hour. I followed the instructions before the test though I don't really remember what they were. Anyway, I passed the second test. Not by flying colors by any means but did pass. Don't stress either way. Take care of yourself. having gestational diabetes isn't the greatest thing, but it's not the end of the world, or your baby's world either. good luck!

I failed both with my first born. Gestational diabetes wasn't fun, but it wasn't a huge deal for me either. I ate my normal foods before the 3 hour test. If you do have it, it's much better to know and follow the recommended meal plans than it is to leave it untreated. Mine was managable by diet alone and I felt SOOOO much better after the diagnosis!

As I am sure your doctor told you, false positives are very common. I also failed the first, followed all instructions and took the second, and passed.

Cee Cee,

I failed my one hour with my second pregnancy. I was also overweight. I passed the three hour with flying colors and just ate my normal diet beforehand. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

Absolutely! I failed the one hour test but passed the long one with flying colors. I didn't follow any specific diet, except that I didn't have a bunch of fruit for breakfast with the long test like I had when I did the first one.

Hi Cee Cee

There is one product that levels out the blood glucose levels and stem the carb craving. It is Shaklee's Soy Protein. You can use that while pregnant and then CINCH after you are pregnant or after you finish nursing.

Cinch and soy protein again help level out the blood sugar and stop the craving for carbs. Also, I myself would add the Vita-Lea and OmegaGuard (fish oil) which helps the baby grow. I have a girlfriend who took the Vita-Lea and at the birth of the baby all the doctors were amazed at the thickness and healthy looking umbilical cord. They just don't see things like that anymore.

The CINCH weight loss will take off not only weight but inches and it dissolves fat not muscle. But I would use the Regular soy protein until you can use the CINCH.

Most people don't want to use soy products and I don't blame them. Most soy out on the market is alcohol washed (not water washed like Shaklee's) and it is heated to the point of losing all the nutrients whereas Shaklee's is cold-processed and we also add additional nutrients to make it more bioavailable to the body.

I think the soy protein would help your glucose test and level out the blood sugar you are worried about. go to www.cinchplan.com or http://N..myshaklee.com to check out the information.

I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and not my second. With my second pregnancy I failed the first but passed the second test. I wasn't put on a special diet for the 3hr test, I was 28 the time. Do you think it could have something to do with your age and the different risks involved with that? My advice would be follow the doctors orders and if you are still concerned voice you concerns with you OB.

Hi Cee Cee,

I was 29 years old and was about 15 lbs over my "healthy" weight when I got pregnant the first time, then gained another 60 by the end. I failed my 1 hour and passed my 3 hour. Actually, most people I know failed their 1 hour on at least one of their pregnancies, and passed their 3 hour test. I just ate normally the days before the 3 hour test. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but bring some good reading material or something to do for the 3 hours, and schedule it as early in the morning as possible!

Good luck,
Celena

Hi Cee Cee,

Just eat normally and try to be aware of your sugar intake from now on. Take the 3 hour test and see what happens. It is quite possible to "pass" the 3 hour test after having failed the one hour test. Just don't stress about it. Stress will only make you more prone to elevated blood sugar levels. (Stress increases your body's adrenaline/epinephrine/cortasol levels. All hormones that tell your liver to release more glucose into your blood stream.) Even if you don't pass, big deal. They will ask you to watch your diet and check on you more regularly. Still nothing to stress about. It is their job to stress and your job do your best while staying as peaceful and calm as possible. Your body and your baby need your peace and calm. Let them worry, and just do your best to follow their advice. No guilt trips. If you slip up just acknowledge that you did and try again. Changing any habit takes time and diet is no exception.

Good Luck,
S.

I haven't. But I would say the best way to get accurate results is to follow their instructions. I know you don't want to have gestational diabetes, but it's not going to help you or baby any if you try to manipulate the test just to avoid a positive result.

With both of my pregnancies I fail the 1 hour miserably but past the 3 hr just fine. I hated having to take both but it is good to make sure. So there is a chance that you can fail one and pass the other.

I failed the one hour and passed the three hour. Did not follow any particular diet as no one told me to. I would advise you to have a snack on hand for after the three hour--I was STARVING afterward!

I wouldn't worry too much. I failed my first 1 hr glucose test by a good margin. I thought "OMG! What am I gonna do?" I am slightly over weight myself. Took myself the 3 hr test and passed with flying colors. I didn't do anything but go to bed, wake up...not eat, and go and take the 3 hr as instructed the very next morning. What they will probably do just to ensure all is well, is give you another 1 hr test a few weeks later just to ensure that all is well. :D Don't fret!
