ETA. U.S Ambassador Killed..... Beginning of the End?

The End?? Seriously?

Sadly, tragedies like this happen far too frequently. Did you think the end was near a decade ago when we invaded the wrong country to avenge the 9/11 attacks?

That just sounds like more extremist religious beliefs being applied as an "answer" to the craziness in this world. I think we've had enough of that, don't you?

The End? Thankfully, though these horrible things have happened throughout history, so far it isn't the end. But sucky? Yeah. Always.

I believe the end will come when no one expects it, and it really doesn't matter when. You're good or you're not whenever that day comes.

We've had wars and rumors of wars (the biblical perspective you are mentioning in your SWH) since those words were penned. We'll have more, too.

I have to say that although our American Ambassdors all over the world are very important people, the fact that it is a US Ambassador doesn't make it more frightening than if it were another.

Where I used to live overseas, the Syrian Ambassdor to the country I lived in, lived in my apartment complex, just one floor below me. His bodyguards used to come up and knock on my door and sheepishly ask if the boys could stop running down the hall - the Ambassador had guests. I was never invited into his home, but we saw each other often in the elevator, and he always spoke. (Usually about food!) I am thinking about him because I have wondered for a while now, if he is dead or alive, and how his family is. And those kind bodyguards.

Wars and rumors of wars...they'll be with us for generations to come, I believe, Dad.

J., you have to understand, my parents were bible thumpers. I have studied Revelations as a defense against them. What I have found is their insane literature is correct, except that it never came true. What I mean is you can make it out to mean any time period and it will fit.

In the end the point is to live your best life all the time. That how you live is preparation, not looking for the exact date, ya know?

For the families of the people who were killed, yes. Their lives, as they knew them, are over and that is where our attention and concern should be placed.

Biblical end, really? On any given day there are atrocities in this world of which most of us in the western world are completely oblivious.

The earth spins on and will continue to do so for 4-5 billion years until the sun becomes a red giant and engulfs it along with Mercury and Venus.
Dinosaurs lasted approximately 200 million years.
We as a species have been around roughly 30,000 years and I have serious doubts we'll make it another 20,000 but we're good for at least another few thousand more.

It will never be the end. Until it is then end. Then none of it will matter. It matters now, but no...it's not the end. If that makes sense. We are pretty much always in the end times. If you believe in the Bible (I don't like to assume) this doesn't exactly seem like a thief in the night. Not only that, what happens to Americans, does not dictate the end of the world.

I don't think about it. I feel like I know where I'm going. If the world ends, I can't stop it from ending. I'm not going to live with worry.

If it is a sign of end times I guess all anyone can do is get right with their maker, right? You know, live everyday like it might be your last.

But I really doubt it is.

And to suggest this is a conspiracy theory by politicians is kind of twisted don't you think? Sad, really.

No, because I don't believe in being myopic about tragedies like this. Bad stuff has happened for millennia and the world hasn't ended.

People need to stop sitting back wondering if the inevitable is going to happen, something ordained, and work with the time they have on earth and the talents they possess to build connections and bridges among people. Starting with understanding and not panicking. Historical perspective is a good thing, and that comes from really good education about what has gone on before. Look at other embassies under other presidents (Carter, Reagan, Bush 1), the Cuban missile crisis under Kennedy, the Vietnam debacle (Johnson & Nixon), 9/11 under Bush 2, and other attacks both from domestic terrorists (Oklahoma City) and those from other lands (Mogadishu, the USS Cole, many others). What we need is people with good perspective and good judgment, not those who panic and say it's the end of the world.

In Biblical terms? hhmmm...there is much more that goes into it than just this one incident...

In conspiracy theory terms? It fits and plays right into Obama's plans....create enough turmoil in the world (just like 9/11 did for Bush) and people won't want to change leadership (although I think enough people agree....Obama is NOT a leader...but I digress...)

Thing is, though, if it's purely off of the poor ambassador being killed... he's hardly the first. Over the past 10 years there have been quite a few either killed, or their staff killed while they were targeted (my bestest is a diplomat, as are several other friends, so those wires I'm usually following).

Biblically... I think most people think that they live in the end of days. Now, 100 years ago, 1000 years ago. 100 years from now. 1000 years from now.

I'm betting we still have a few millenia at least to go.

I believe that it is the beginning of the end of any semblance of peace between the West and zealots basing their hatred on their religion and their prophet. - I will not name a religion as not all members of any religion support radicalism.

Do I think it is Biblical ? - I agree with the Bible - we shall not know the day or hour - so I do not begin to assume.

But, I do believe that our naivety in any semblance of peace and acceptance between views should be ending just about now and we need to brace ourselves for further violence.

Not sure what you mean by begining of the end? And, shouldn't people be serious today! Americans were killed for nothing! Why would you say that linking the current administration to this is silly? Is Obama responsible, no. Is he responsible to give a response that will protect American's from future incidents as much as possible, yes. Is he going to do that or just make excuses? I think he is just going to make excuses. So while you may think people with opinions different from you are silly I tend to disagree.

Hopefully it will be the end of Obama in the White House, though. ;)

ETA: And now we have the embassy in Yemen being attacked. Hmmm... I guess the "youth" in these countries don't think the U.S. will bother to do anything about it any of this... Why do you suppose they think that way?
