Epoxy Garage Floor Coating

My husband and I put some epoxy paint on our garage floor yesterday morning. I want to put some clear epoxy gloss on top of it. The temp range for working with this stuff is 55-85 degrees. We pushed it by painting the floor because it's so hot (approx. 85-90 degrees) but really couldn't wait until the temps drop (long story). I think the clear gloss is a little different then the epoxy paint. Has anyone ever applied the epoxy paint/clear coat before?

I wanted to put the clear gloss epoxy on this evening but the temps are still too high in the evening so I'm thinking of doing it tomorrow morning at around 5am when it will be a little cooler (but still 85-86 degrees). The directions say, if you're covering a bare cement floor it's best to apply it at night when the temps are on the way down as opposed to morning when the temps are on the way up. I'm not covering a bare cement floor but wondering if this holds true when applying over a painted floor. The directions don't say anything about it but I'm still wondering.

The temps this evening will still be around 100, is it really too hot to apply it? Once the epoxy is mixed, under normal conditions you only have 90 min to apply it. My concern with the temps is that it won't bond correctly and it will become such that I can't work with it.

What about just waiting until next weekend to apply the epoxy? I've gotten conflicting info that for best bonding to the paint it should be done about 24 hrs after the paint. I've also read that it can be done up to weeks after applying the paint. I don't know what to believe and I want the garage to look nice, we've put a lot of time, effort and money into this.

Please don't tell me to just wait and do it in the morning if I have concerns....I'd really like to hear other people's experiences.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I put the clear top coat down this morning at 5am....ugh. Temps were right around 85 degrees with a high for the day around 105. I just hope it cures ok and doesn't start to peel. This is definitely the wrong time of year to do this project but it had to be done so we did the best we could. Thanks again.

Work overnight when it's cooler - the temp overnight will be within your working range - and then close the garage door during the day to attempt to keep it as cool as possible.

i'm sorry I don't have any experience with this, Do you feel like If you called the store you bought it from or a different hardware ish store in your area that you might get someone knowledgeable enough to answer your question? I know trying to find answers to this stuff on the internet can be very frustrating.

again I've never used the stuff but I would think applying it sooner so it bond would be important, would the heat make it bubble or does that affect the bond too?
good luck

Maybe see if there is a help number on the container somewhere to ask. Or look at the company's website and see if there is any help.
I've never used it so I have no clue.
I think the reason for doing it at night verses during the day is that the temperature is going up as it cures making it cure funny instead of down. It might now cure at all if the temperature is going up instead of down.
