I am currently thinking of having an Endometrial Ablation surgery done by my doctors request. I am wondering if anyone has had this and how it went, how long you were out of commission, did it stop your bleeding for good or just regulate it, and what type did you have? Any input would be great.

I have a friend who is in her 50's that had it done. She was miserable for weeks after and now every month when her period is supposed to come she ends up doubled over in pain. Apparently the Ablation has caused so much scarring that all of the stuff from her period doesn't exit her body. She is now going to have to have a hysterectomy after the new year. She wishes she would have just gone back on the pill even though she is much older.

I had the Nova-Sure procedure done in September 2008. I have had no bleeding since right after the procedure. I do still have the other monthly symptoms, ie cramping, tender breasts, and bloating. I have no complaints about those things since I no longer have to deal with the heaving bleeding. It was the right choice for me. I do not regret the decision.

I had the procedure 9 months ago. Laid up for about 2 days. Resumed light monthly bleeding about 4 months after the procedure for a few months. Now it seems to have stopped again. Still get premenstrual symptoms. Very happy that I'm not stopped dead in my tracks every month with heavy bleeding.

Hi N.,
Believe it or not I just recommended this procedure to my co-worker yesterday...I had this procedure done 3 years ago and let me tell you how I enjoy life again. my cycle was a "blower" and this procedure gave me freedom again. No cuts, no nothing! I can't remember how long I was off work, but it wasn't long at all. I haven't had a period since the procedure....Im not complaining either! LOL! I was one of the blessed ones...Life is good....tell your Dr. I said good call!

I had it done almost a year ago (next week will be a year!) and have had FANTASTIC success! I have not had any kind of a period or cramps or anything since the procedure! And I had VERY, VERY awful periods due to Endometriosis and later scar tissue for surgeries.... so I can't recommend it enough!

I had it around 8 am - we were out of the hospital by 10:30 or so - was a little sleepy the rest of the day because of the anesthesia but perfectly fine to care for 18 month old twins the following day!

Good luck!

I had the ablation done using the NovaSure procedure. I was only out of commission for a couple of days--did it on a Friday. While it didn't stop my bleeding, it has cut back on it dramatically! I was a little disappointed when the bleeding started again, because several of my friends have had the same procedure done and kept telling me that they have no bleeding at all. But every person is different. Glad I did the procedure--I can handle the bleeding now where before it was month long and heavy. Good luck and best wishes!!

I had the NovaSure procedure done about 7 years ago. It was recommended to me to have my tubes tied at the same time, to make sure there was no chance for a pregnancy. I had alot of pain and was laid up for almost 2 weeks with the tubal (outside cuts were done right on a scar from emergency abdominal surgery, so it wouldn't heal and there was alot of pain), but I had no problems with the NovaSure procedure. I still do get my period, but it is so light compared to what I was dealing with. I am pleased with the results.

Good Morning,

I had this done last year and it was well worth it!!!!!! I have always been a very heavy bleeder, and monthly cycles lasted 7 full days. Since the procedure I am not one of the lucky ones who stopped completely, but it has slowed down greatly, and my cycle last nly around 4 days. For me that is wonderful S. B

Had it done 10/30/09. Was out just that day - back to work the next day. It's too soon to know the final outcome, but my first period after the surgery was some very very very light spotting. I did have some oozing for 3 weeks after the surgery (which they told me about), but nothing major. It was really a non-event. I had it done at 7:30 am and by 4pm that day, I was at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and drove myself. The worst part was coming out of the anesthesia - a headache and nausea. Went to Dr. Alexander at Women's Health Care Associates at the Rush Copley complex in Aurora.
