I'm assuming you have had ultrasounds to see what the heavy bleeding is being caused by. I'm just mentioning this because I had the same problem, and it was caused by fibriod tumors in my uterus. There was no way to stop the bleeding other than a hysterectomy, which I had when I was 40. Ablation wouldn't have worked, according to my doctor, because of the shape of the uterus. I have a good friend who had ablation though, and she hasn't had period at all since.

I had my tubes tied at the same time I had my c-section. I did notice a little discomfort seperate from that from the c-section that day and the next day but it wasn't bad. I also had an ablation about 10 months after the c-section. My periods were always light and become very unmanagable after the last child. I did it out patient with general anesteshia. I don't recall any discomfort or pain from it. I do remember the doctor perscribing pain meds. I had the procedure on a Friday morning and went back to work Monday morning. I had no period the first couple months, then a few months of spotting and then nothing at all for the last 4 years. When I had mine, it was said that an ablation will stop periods for 80% of the people. You can't have kids after an ablation. You're young, you may want to wait a couple years before taking the leap. I had my last child (and tubal ligation and ablation) at 40.

I had the ablation done (Novasure method) a little more than a year ago. I had extremely heavy periods too, the kind that put a stop to normal life. There would always be at least 1 day (couldn't predict which one) when I might need to run to the bathroom every 10-20 minutes (and in a good month it was only every hour). I found myself afraid to work or go anywhere, so I finally decided to do something about it.

The procedure was relatively quick and I went home the same day, but the pain for the first day after was excruciating. Still, I'm glad I had it done. My periods since then have been much, much lighter, and different in length and other symptoms than before, and still seem to be changing slightly as time goes by, but very livable. I never achieved "period free" status, but I am so happy with the results.

My doctor said that it was possible that in 5 years or so I may be back to heavy periods again. There's really no telling. But if so, I can make the decision then whether to have the ablation again, or go for a hysterectomy, or just manage until menopause (I'm 39 now).

I had an endometrial ablation a couple years ago. Because of my fibroid tumors, it didn't work for me and I ended up having a hysterectomy. That also confirmed endomitriosis.
The ablation is an outpatient procedure with moderate pain and short recovery. If your doctor is recommending it, I would go for it. Good luck!

I had my tubes tied after my c-section---no problems. Last year I had an ablation becuz my periods were ridiculous---I was constantly ruining my clothes, had to sleep with plastic undies on so wouldn't stain my sheets, etc. The ablation was way more painful than described but that was over the next day. I only wear panty liners when my period comes now. There is not much blood--it is like the very end of a period but it lasts 7 days.

My mother also had an ablation but her heavy periods returned and she ended up with a hysterectomy. However, it has so far worked out fine for me.

I used to sell an endometrial ablation device and a office-based permanent contraception technology (not tubal ligation). Have you tried an IUD? They are really effective for both controlling bleeding and birth control. Mirena is the most popular. If that's not an option, these procedures are safe and effective. But make sure your doctor uses Novasure as an endometrial ablation device. It is the best one on the market.

I'm having the ablation on Thursday .... We'll see how it goes. It's a same day surgery here, but under general anaestethia ... I'm a pansy when it comes to any pain, so DH will be off to help through the weekend. If the doctor is recommending it, do the research and make a final decision. Just know that it is a final decision and apparently, you will still need to use birth control, as a pregnancy could be fatal for you.

Had my tubes tied - no problems whatsoever. I had very light anesthesia but wound up sleeping through it. I went home afterwards with 1 day in bed. I worked for a few years in an outpatient facility where local anesthesia and IV pain management were used, and the patients were awake and pain-free during the entire procedure (their choice). They went home after a 1.5 or 2 hour rest, and used oral pain management for a few days.

I had no complications whatsoever - there's some belly tenderness, obviously, and some common shoulder pain due to the gas used to inflate the abdomen (benign) - so you just lie down if the shoulder pain is uncomfortable. You can be a little gassy for a few days while the gas works its way out.

By itself, it did not affect my periods one way or another. Hope this helps!
