Early Pregnancy "Spotting"

Hi Moms,
I really need your opinions today. I'm about 11 weeks along, and I'm waiting for my pregnancy medicaid to go through. So I haven't seen a Dr. yet. I had a crazy, very stressed, weekend. There was a slightly bumpy boat ride, and I lifted something too heavy for me. Monday I wasn't feeling up to par. My husband and I had intercourse yesterday morning (Tuesday), then I started "spotting". I read online that it's normal in the forst trimester, but it doesn't ease my mind. I am having light cramps, so I'm pretty worried. How long does the spotting go on? I had it all day yesterday and now today too. I'm thinking I should just go to the medicaid pregnancy clinic to get checked out today. How would I know if I was miscarrying? We would hate to lose this baby.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The first response was the only one I had time to read.
Unfortunately, things spiralled out of control so fast yesterday. The cramps got worse and worse. They felt like labor pains by the time I got to the ER and I ended up losing the baby. They called it a spontaneous miscarriage. As you can imagine I am just devastated...My heart is broken and my body feels empty.I just want my baby back. Now I don't know how, or what to tell my son.I never dreamed this would happen.I tried to do all the right things.

J., I am so so sorry to hear that you miscarried. Be very gentle with yourself and take it as easy as you can. Now is not the time to be alone, so if you have gfriends you can hang with, I would advise that. As far as telling your son, there may be a book (I am sure there is) that could help you with that. I will be thinking about you all day.

I would go to the ER if it were me, just to be safe. They can't turn you away for no insurance and it would ease your mind tremendously.

On the bright side, with one of my pregnancies, early on I had a couple of actual gushes of blood, and all was well - she is almost 13 now!

Good luck and God Bless!

Get checked out if possible. Some spotting after intercourse is not uncommon during pregnancy, but if it's *bright* red and you're still cramping, it might put your mind at ease to go ahead and be seen by a professional.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Your family is in my prayers and thoughts, this is never an easy thing to tell your child but i had a miscarriage and i told my daughter that God decieded that the baby was not ready and Go wanted to have the baby with him and now the baby will watch over us. He is our angel. Good luck and again i am sorry to hear about your loss.

Honestly, you won't know until you get checked out. Yes, it could be absolutely normal - there are lots of things that can make a woman spot, sex being one of them - but there are also some not so normal things. At 11 weeks, a vaginal ultrasound should be able to detect a heartbeat, if one is not detected with the doppler. If you are miscarrying, there isn't anything you can do to prevent it. But a low laying placenta could cause bleeding and there are lots of activities that are restricted if that is the case. Most places have said that if you have experienced bleeding for 24 hrs and are having cramps - to get checked out.

Go get checked out ASAP. You don't want to have a spontaneous miscarraige at home.

I recommend you go to the doctor. It can't hurt, and it can put your mind at ease, and it might even help you to know what you can and can't do. But putting your mind at ease is always a good thing.

Sounds like you may be having a threatened miscarriage. I've had a couple myself. Very disheartening. I'd keep your legs elevated up a couch or wall as much as you can...higher than your heart. Stay off your feet. Get another home pregnancy test in a day or two to check when spotting stops. I don't see how going to a clinic would help you at all. You don't want any intercourse or vaginal inspections right now. Reduce stress....breathe! Good luck...angel blessings. If indeed you miscarry, consider my Fertility Tonic which raises your progesterone levels...a must for keeping that egg in tact. When we approach our 40's our progesterone levels drop considerably. We are usually overrun with estrogen from the environment so also see my Detox Page.
