Early Pregnancy Cramping

I am almost 7 weeks pregnant with my third child and I have been having mild cramping all day on and off! It is not terrible or painful! Just kind of irritating and uncomfortable. I went to the bathroom and there was a little bit of blood, but there has been nothing else all day and now I feel fine! Is this normal? I never had this with my last baby. My first baby was 5 years ago and this happened but I don't remember if it was like this or different! Just curious if this is normal!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I would like to thank everyone for their advice! I have been feeling fine! No more spotting or cramping! Just the occassional twinge every now and then! I think I just get a little paranoid! ETA: I also went to Urgent Care and found out that I had a pretty bad bladder infection, which was causing all my symptoms!

I had both the cramping and spotting with my first pregnancy. FREAKED me out, of course, so I called the Doc. They said it was normal, and said they typically don't see moms for those symptoms unless they got worse. All went well, and it stopped by 10 or 11 weeks. Try to relax, keep an eye on it to see if certain things are making it worse, and hang in there!! (Congrats, too!)

Early cramping is very normal, as is spotting. I wouldn't get too worried unless either the cramping or bleeding get worse. I think if you call your doctor, all they are going to tell you is to wait it out. If it was the beginning of a miscarriage, there is nothing they could do to stop it. More than likely though, it's just a normal part of early pregnancy. Good luck.

As an ER nurse I would tell you to drink a little extra water today and rest a little more than usual. It can be very normal. It can also be signs of miscarriage. Unfortunately at 12 weeks gestation there isn't anything to prevent it from happening if that is the case. You are right at that mark of "safe" where miscarriage risk decreases. If you don't have heavy bright red blood you are likely just fine. It is probably round ligament pain which are the ligaments that hold the uterus--they really start to get stretched around this time. God Bless. I hope this helps.

It's so hard to tell with these things. I've had one miscarriage at 6 weeks where I had mild spotting with minimal cramping, I've had a successful pregnancy where I had spotting and cramping at 6 weeks, and I've had a miscarriage at 10 weeks where I had no symptoms at all. So, if it helps you sleep easier, I'd go to the doctor for a check. But if it is a miscarriage, like someone else said, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it, so you'd be ok waiting it out too. If it were me, I'd go to the doctor- but I've had 2 miscarriages and would be super paranoid.

It is hard to tell. It can be normal to have some cramping. If the bleeding is brown I would not worry to much. But if it is bright red it could mean trouble. But then you just never know. Sadly in January I lost my baby at 9 weeks. I started with mild cramps for 2 days with brown spotting. Then it changed to period like cramps and red bleeding. Call your doctor and see if they can at least get you in for a HCG count. That way if it starts to get worse they have a base line HCG level to go on. They can do another blood test in 2 days and see if your levels are dropping and you are miscarrying or if they are rising and the baby is ok. Good luck and I hope everything turns out much better for you.

S.,

I would highly recommend going to the doctor tomorrow to ease your mind. Sometimes that can be normal but it could also indicate a miscarriage.

I didn't have any bleeding or cramping with my first 3 kids.
When I miscarried in Sept 2006 (at 7-8wks), I didn't have any cramping, just a little bit of bleeding here and there. I got pregnant again Feb 07 and in May 07, I had a little bit of bleeding and because of what happened previously and I was going out of state, I went to see the doctor... Well I now have a healthy 4 month old baby girl...

Good luck and I hope everything is ok.

Early cramping is normal. I don't recall it with my 2 year old, but I did have it with my 8 month old and it was explained to me that it's your uterus and ligaments streatching.

If there's no more blood that's probably what it is. The blood may have been a type of implantation bleeding. But if you are concerned, call your clinic and see if there's a triage nurse to talk to or a doctor on call to talk to. They could proably give you a better feeling if there's anything to worry about.

This exact thing JUST happened to my SIL. She's had what she describes as crippling cramps and one day, she had a tiny spot of blood (quarter size) and when she went to the ER, everything was fine. They told her it was her uterus growing and stretching and the blood was related to that. So, it can be normal. However, I've also had a friend who has had miscarriages(no kids yet) and 2 of the 4 miscarriages started out with these exact symptoms. So, pay attention to your body and keep track of how often this is happening. If it happens again soon, I'd go in and just double check things. It's better to go in and be safe, than to wonder and cause more stress on your body. If it concerns you enough...go in and ease your mind.
