Ear Infection?

My daughter keeps shrugging her shoulder toward her ear. Could this be a sign of an ear infection? She also tries to scratch it sometimes when her allergies are really acting up so I am not sure if it itches or if she might really have an ear infection. She does not have a fever and is not overly onery.

What can I do next?

Could be. Try to eliminate phlegm causing foods, such as milk. Grape juice eliminates phlegm, but brush her teeth after. Goat's milk is non-mucus forming.

If you go to an herb store look for Dr. Christopher's ear and nerve (drops) you can put right in her ear.

I would get it checked out, my dd had chronic ear infections definitely when teething. I know many people who have scarring in there ears because of letting an ear infection go.

Her ear might just have fluid or mucus in it. I would cut out milk and dairy to see if she has an allergy. Just keep an eye on her because fluid in the ear can turn into an infection.

It sounds like it's worth checking out. Our boys both seem to have a high pain tolerance for ear infections and usually our first clue is when they wake up screaming in the middle of the night. We've had a few ear drums rupture as a result of not knowing. Often they have know other symptoms of being sick. Oddly enough, the last time I took the baby in for shrugging his shoulder, it was actually the other ear that was infected. Pretty severely, too. GL! I hope it's nothing other than having discovered something cool on the side of her head!

tasha,
i would definately have it checked out. you don't want to mess around with ear infections. my 3 yr old started getting ear infections when she started daycare at 8mos old. she got tubes at a year and they only lasted until she was 2yrs old. she still gets them once in a while usually when she's been really congested from a cold or during allergy season. if your daughter gets a fever, i can bet it will be an ear infection. i've also read that sometimes when they're teething their ears can bother them as well. you should get it checked out just in case. good luck to you.

If she recently had a cold then I think it worth checking into. Allergies in kids that young are super super uncommon. It may be a cold. Ear infections commonly come after or near the end of a cold when the nose/sinuses are beginning to drain. That's how I've known when my babies have had ear infections. She may or may not be upset by it but it won't go away without a Rx. So best take her in. Good luck.
