My family, including my 20 month old peanut, are planning to pile in our Odyssey and head up to Door County later this month. Anyone have suggestions of good places to stay, that would be kid-friendly?

So What Happened?

We decided to go to Las vegas instead, since one of you mentioned it is going to be much cooler up there in WI now. But I saved all these responses, and will be reviewing them again when we go up to Door county later this year when it's warmer! Thanks for all your responses!

Hi ND,

Check out The Rushes (www.therushes.com) near Baileys Harbor in Door County. It's a timeshare place, but you can rent per night as well. I think it's beautiful there-- very kid friendly (I have a 3 year old and we went there when she was two as well). Check out my review on www.tripadvisor.com (in the search field type in: the rushes door county. Click on the four reviews and choose mine called "Another great winter vacation". I've only been there in the wintertime, but I'm sure it's great in the spring. Indoor pool, activities coordinator year 'round. I included pictures in my review so you can get an idea of the accommodation. Good luck.

I have no advice, but we go up there all the time. My parents have a house in Baileys Harbor. It is quiet and not a tourist trap there. I hope it is not too cold for you! July and August are the warmest months. Not sure when the Farm opens or the Dairy View Farm (free), 2 places you child would love. Have to hike in Peninsula Sate Park or Newport. Oh and visit Cave Point-it is geat. Must eat at the Bowl--Pearch is the best in the county and my hubby says the best Prime Rib he has ever had, not to mention some relatives own it. My dad's side of the family had several farms up there back in the day. Must have Wilson's icecream and I have have never eaten there, but the place with the goats living on the roof (in sister Bay)-a breakfast place. We do not eat out, except The Bowl(Sister Bay) and Wilson's for icecream.
Okay, enough rambling on...have fun!

Hi - my family has been going up to Door Co each summer for years & years. We love being outdoors and enjoying the scenery and low-key getaway. The town we stay in is Ephraim. We go there for our extended family vacation which includes my sister/brother in law & their 4 kids (all under 8 years old), my step brother/his wife & their two 1 year old twins, us with our 3 year old & my Dad & his wife - I'd say it's a family friendly place!!!
When we're there in July, we like to stay at the Bay Breeze hotel because they have both a great pool and a nice sandy beach. If it's off-season, one of the other hotels with an indoor pool is great to stay at - Pine Grove Motel, or Eagle Habor Inn (another favorite place).
Hope that helps!

Try the Yacht Club in Bailey's Harbor - they have 2 pools (in and out) and a nice playground and the rooms have a kitchen. Plus there are a lot of nice restaurants nearby. Mike's Port Pub in Jacksonport is a nice bar and grill - and their fish fry is better and cheaper than the Sister Bay Bowl. You must take them to Al Johnson's in Sister Bay to see the goats on the roof. Also the ferry to Washington Island and the little 'train' you ride around the island are fun for kids.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but as you can see from the reviews, you can't beat Baileys Harbor, Sister Bay and Ephraim. I have been going up to Door County for 11 years. We loved it so much that we built a house in the woods with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. We rent it out and now are in the midst of trying to sell it. It is a beautiful home in a private, secluded area that has access to shoreline (not swimmable because it's on the rock side). There are so many things to do up there and it doesn't cost as much as Vegas! Great time in the summer and the entire month of October! Would love to share pictures with anyone who is interested in renting or buying. It is a true treasure and one that we will miss, but our children are involved in so many activities all throughout the year that we just don't have the time to spend there. 5 acres of wood (deer included), sounds of the waves, east side sun room for those morning cups of coffee and a large deck for sitting and relaxing to the sounds of nature, with a fire pit for those romantic and warm nights (marshmellows are great too)Please email me for more information! I would love to share our neck of the woods.

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Last summer six of my siblings, their families, my parents and my fam(that's a lot of us!) stayed at the Bridgeport Resort and had a great stay! We split a suite with my sister's fam, and our babies' slept in our rooms(in their pack 'n' plays) and then my older nephews slept on a sleeper couch in the living room. Two bathrooms and a kitchen! Great times with a little bit of a water park inside and out and a ball room for the kiddos! The kids get goody bags, their are movies and games to rent, and a great view! I recommend it! And going to The Farm-where your peanut can give milk to the sheep and goats!
Good luck and have fun!

We have stayed at Westwood Shores several times. It is quiet and only about a mile from the "downtown" area. We loved it there.

However if you are interested in checking out a different WI location we have been going to Sheboygan, WI for the last 3 years and staying at www.blueharborresort.com it is a GREAT family place. Let me know what you decide!
