Hello everyone! My husband and I are looking for a nice place to travel with the kids. We wanted to go to Sea World in Ohio - but it's closed! We have a 3 year old and a 9 month old. Has anyone been to some sort of resort area/town/city/place that you would recommend? We'd love to take a road trip but don't have a destination. We've done Wisconsin Dells already. . .

What can I do next?

Nancy,

We spent Memorial Day in Minnesota right by the Mall of America. They have a huge indoor/outdoor water park up there. We didn't stay there since I'm 6.5 months pregnant, but it looked like a lot of fun. We are thinking about going back up over the 4th of July weekend.

St. Louis is also great at that age. Most tickets are free for 2 & under or free for all ages...They have a great zoo, The Magic House (a great one!!) and Grant's Farm (with a fun petting zoo).

Hilton Head Island in SC, just got back from our first family vacation there two weeks ago with our nine month old and loved it. Would recommend renting a place- we stayed at Island Club- can give you the details if you might want to pursue it. They also have a motel 6 and other chain hotels on the island that looked nice. Good luck.

Check out Sandusky, Ohio on Lake Erie. They have a lot of attractions, Cedar Point Amusement Park with a huge water Park, Jungle Kingdom and islands that you can visit.
My cousins live in Port Clinton, so we have been visiting there since we were kids, this year I am going to take my kids to enjoy all the area has to offer! We have always called it, "Wisconsin Dells of Ohio."
You can do a lot of research on-line. Good Luck!!

Hi Nancy,

We've been traveling with our three kids since the first was was an infant, and here is where we have gone: Door County, WI; Pittsburgh, PA; Adrinodack Mountains, NY; Chattanooga, TN; St. Louis, MO; Minneapolis, MN; Wisconsin Dells, WI; and a trip around Lake Michigan (WI and MI). All of the trips have been special in their own way, but my kid-friendly favorites have been St. Louis, Minneapolis, and the trip around Lake Michigan - Mackinac Island and Traverse City, MI, and Green Bay, WI were especially fun! This year we are headed to the Smoky Mountains (Gatlinburg, TN), which looks like a fun destination as well, and only a 10 hour drive or so. 10 hours is a bit far for my three kids (now 7, 5, and 2), but if you break the drive up into two days, and stop in Louisville or Indianapolis, with a quick trip to a zoo or kids museum, it makes the drive much easier with the wee ones. Good luck vacation planning, and hope you all have loads of fun!
