Does Your FEMALE Dog Do This???

The other night, my hubby and I were about to do THE DEED when I felt my dog's nails on my leg. I looked down to tell her to get away and was shocked to see her humping my leg!! She's a female and has been fixed so I've NEVER seen her hump anything (except once to another female dog to show her dominance). Plus, she sleeps in our bed so she's seen me and my husband being hot and heavy before and she's always just slept through it or watched with a bored look on her face. Then tonight, a similar thing happened only this time it was to my husband's leg! What's going on?? Has your dog done this before and what does it mean?? She's fixed as I said and her crotch doesn't actually touch either of our legs...she's just doing the action so essentially humping the air... I'm confused as to why she's doing this all of a sudden...

What can I do next?

Yes for some dogs, it's more common in male dogs but female dogs will too, especially unnuttered/unspayed dogs. My dog humped a giant stuffed animal. J.

Our female dog humps our male dog all the time. My 2.5 year old asks her why she's "playing horsey." It's all about dominance. I wouldn't worry about it, and would probably boot her out of the room, or at least off the bed, for a while and I bet it will help.

Yep -females hump to show dominance (but not only other dogs). I've never had a female try to hump me or my leg, but I've seen our dominant girl hump our younger dog mercilessly! For awhile we even called the youngest "humpmeat"! I've also seen females hump furniture. Sometimes it's a dominance issue, and sometimes I think they're just scratching an itch!

My dog (12 year old female) does this too. It probably is a dominance thing because she has only done it to our 3 year old (he's smaller than she is) and a large Curious George stuffed animal. She seems to only go after things that won't/can't push her off.

With dogs it is about dominance. She may thing your husband is trying to dominate you, and so she is showing her dominance in the house.

She is probably trying to just insert herself into a situation that is obviously all about you two and not her. She is just showing her dominance when she feels her position in relationship to you guys is not secure.

Oh, our dog that we had growing up used to hump everything! She was a crazy humper! lol. She would hump stuffed animals, us, friends, furniture, etc. Don't worry. It's normal.

Yikes! Your female dog is asserting her dominance with you! Time to do some more training! My female is a very dominant girl, and she humps our male dog and our other female dog (but she had better not EVER hump me or she'll be in for a surprise!)

I had a spayed lab that would hmp pillows, blankets, stuffed animals - basically anything she could get between her legs. She neve rhumped people though. And she only seemed to get frisky if there was rough housing going on between kids or if someone else was getting frisky with her in the room ;-)
