What do you all think of this, I haven't ever had two male cats so I have not seen this before. Within the last week my fixed 6 month old male cat has been trying to mate with my other male cat. They are both outdoor cats, but when the weather gets cold I let them stay in the garage with their food water and cat box. Whenever I see this funny business I separate them. Its pretty disturbing to watch! I would imagine since there are no females around and the little one is "coming of age" and he is either confused, desparate, or trying to make a statement that he is the boss around here...what do you think? I am hoping that the behavior will pass because its pretty annoying and I feel sorry for my poor older male because hes just a victim here! Thanks :)
Thank you all for your time...I certainly am not concerned with him being gay, its too funny what people come up with I ran into that statement quite a bit online...I was just trying to make sure neither cat ended up hurt here is all, or if my cat is losing his mind or what, lol
It's not mating. It's territorial dominance. Don't worry about it. They aren't confused, they're "discussing" who is the boss.
I would personally leave it up to the cats to sort out themselves.
It could be dominance or it could be sexual, or both. Doesn't matter if he's fixed or not. I used to work with animals and I guarantee you animals of both genders and all types enjoy getting out their sexual energy from time to time, whether with a member of the same or opposite sex, or even just rubbing themselves up against a conveniently positioned log or stuffed toy. I've seen it with cats (including bobcats and tigers), birds, porcupines, even tortoises. Nothing to worry about, unless the other cat seems clearly distressed.

I have a neutered 8 yr old toy poodle that will attempt to hump the 9 yr old female cocker all the time. When the cocker gets tired of it she just turns around and bites at him. It is like a game with them because they run, chase and play a lot and this happens when they play.
Our 14 yr old male neutered Cocker did this all his life BUT he had a stuffed animal he loved and after dinner every night, he'd go get his stuffed toy and go to town with it. Boy we miss him.... he just died in Dec.
All of our pets were fixed early on.. I don't know if it is sexual or not. I suppose it is just normal. I agree that its probably something to do with dominance.
It's not so much about mating and more about one asserting dominance over the other. One cat wants to be the alpha cat. The biting the scruff of the neck and basically sitting on them isn't to mate, it's to pin the other one down and show who's dominate.
It's also some play and rough housing.
It's what they do and is nothing to be worried about. It certainly doesn't mean the are gay o_O
In the dog world it's a dominance thing. I'm guessing it is similar for cats.
My understanding is that it's a aggressive, dominance thing. You might talk to your vet to see if there's anything you can do.
It's not sex. They are trying to figure out who's the boss. In the animal world there's always a boss. Leave them to figure it out.
Also are the neutered? If they aren't then get them neutered asap or you could end up with a spraying problem.
I had a gay male cat. When my other cat had enough of being mounted, he just got annoyed and hissed and the other cat got off. It was pretty funny.
I miss that cat. :(
My neutered male cat will sometimes mount the spayed females. It's not sexual, it's dominance behavior. Nothing to be concerned about.
