Im on ParaGard and just had my one month check up, all is great and was told by everyone on it even nurses that i didnt have to use condoms anymore. BUT i just got off my period and my chart says im fertile/ovulating. My husband and I started to not use a condom but after a second he pulled out and we used a condom cause we chickened out. LOL. I just had our second kid so bare with me if i seem alittle paranoid its just we cant possibly take care of another child and i had life threatening on both my part and the baby's when i gave birth to both my kids. I was just wondering if it mattered if you were ovulating or not if your on ParaGard insert. Thanks.

What can I do next?

From day 1 it's as effective as a tubal ligation.

Take antibiotics. Have unprotected sex every hour on the hour and hang upside down from the ceiling. Douche. Don't douche. Ovulate 10 eggs at once. Take fertility drugs. As long as you can reach up and feel the line/ it's placed properly... you're good.

Isn't ParaGard an IUD? If so then no, no need for condoms! As Spidermonkey mentioned, an IUD will stop the egg from implanting so no need for a back up method. And, just an FYI, most pills actually do stop you from ovulating, that's the way the pill works and that's one way it's different from other forms of BC.

Anyway, live free and ditch the condoms!

I was told by my doc it doesn't matter. It doesn't stop you from ovulating it stops the egg from emplanting. I haven't used condoms since november!

even though you ovulate you are on bc, so you should not get pregnant, you ovulate when you are on the pill too but the bc prevents the pregnancy

My husband had the snip snip and I stayed on bcp for fear of pregnancy until I had a hysterectomy and only then did I feel completely free to enjoy and not worry!!

If you have concerns, I'd use protection just to be on the safe side.
