Does Citronella Repell Mosquitos in Yard?

Citronella gives ME a feeling that it helps...lol

Now I am looking for mosquito 'spoons' to feed it to them...lol

When ever I have get togethers at my home, I buy the biggest bottle of Listerine I can find. I fill up the plastic container that you attach to the hose with Listerine. Then I spray the whole yard. It really does work. It will not harm plants, animals or children.

This won't work for everyday repelling, but for bbqs or parties it works. Get a couple of chunks of dry ice (sometimes you order/get it from Walmart or local grocery stores) and place around the perimeter of your yard. The mosquitos are attracted to the CO2 in the dry ice (same as in your breath) and the will gravitate to the dry ice and then (I assume) flash freeze.

I learned this from my grandma, who lives in the backwoods in the middle of tons of wheat farms with absolutely no shortage of the pesky critters!

Buy Avon's "Skin So Soft". It's an oil. My mom thinks it smells good. I don't particularly think so. But it seems to work. Squirt it all over your skin (or rub it on using a cotton ball).

or

buy a citronella plant. You'll get a nice piece of greenery, plus it's probably cheaper than a whole bunch of candles you have to light.

I got an email yesterday that said you can repel mosquitoes by putting Listerine in a spray bottle by spraying it around the yard. Also spray around windows and door frames (don't spray directly on door).

Not sure if it works but it is worth a try.

It depends upon how many mosquitos you have. If you surround yourself with the candles or torches and stay near them, they help. If you get the plants you need to put them every 3-4 in the area you want to stay mosquito free. Bug zappers work but they also attract more bugs because of the light. I know an old remedy was to use yellow light bulbs to repel bugs again they help.
The best thing is to try and get rid of any standing water so they can't nest and to encourage bats in your neighborhood.

they help a little. i have a major mosquito problem, and 3 kids that have their faces in the grass all the time, i wont spray. i have tried everything, i am desperate. i have almost no flowers anymore because all i grow are plants that supposedly repel them. this year i hatched about 10 praying mantis egg sacs, i have them crawling all in my grass. we shall see. i even put up a bathouse. bats make me want to scream. supposedly its the best thing to do. but i have no residents in mine yet, i think i put it too low. it has a few rules, look it up before you just stick it up. but if you have a good spot, supposedly bats are the best. and purple martins, but you need a really big space to put their birdhouse in.

We've used the candles when we've been camping and it seems to keep them away to a certain degree...
