I am 20 weeks pregnat with my second child and we had a sonogram yeasterday 9-11, and the doc said "if he had a guess he would say it's a girl, because he never saw anything hanging" Does that ean he can't tell? I mean thank GOD he said everything looks good and the baby looks healthy so I am very happy about that! BUt now I am confused! I s that what docs say because they don't want to say definately its a girl incase they are wrong? Do I go out and buy pink things or what! hja ha ha. My first pregnancy we kept it a surprise, it was so excoting, but now it would be nice to better prepare our daughter, ourselves, and our home for the arrival of this baby. So I guess I am asking.... is that usually what they say or was the just not sure?

What can I do next?

I have a 1 year old boy...when we found out the gender, the tech was positive it was a boy and said so! If the doctor was that ambivalent, I wouldn't buy any pink until I had another sonogram. Good luck and I hope you continue to have a healthy pregnancy!

he said it that way cause he's not a 100 percent postive that it's a girl. Doc's can make mistakes. Dont buy pink anything YET!!!!!!

The same thing happened to me with my number 2. I waited 2 weeks from the " I think it's a girl" date, then expressed to the doctor how dissapointed I was in the sonogram procedure last time and stated I wanted another to get more accurate measurements, etc. They need to use an excuse like that to get away with it being covered by insurance. My doctor did it and sure enough, they were right, girl....
Good luck!

that can be so annoying! they did that to me too, telling me that they would GUESS that it was a girl...and i had my lil girl! i've been told that if they say it's a boy, it's DEFINITELY a boy, BUT if they say it's a girl, the baby doesn't always come out a girl. most of the time (through the ppl i know) they've been right. the dr's say that sometimes if it's a boy, they may be positioned in a way where the leg can hide the gender, but if the baby is in a position where there's no doubt, then stick with what they said. a friend of mine did this chart for just about everyone she knew during their pregnancy, and it out of ALL only 1 was wrong (but we could have made a mistake on that one, it was a guess for date of conception) try it out, maybe you'll get the same answer, maybe not...it's fun to try though. good luck, and congratulations! i would just wait until the next ultrasound until you buy any gender specific things. for painting, you can paint a very nice, light blue (i chose honolulu blue) and use primer and a sponge to put clouds on the top 1/2 of the walls, and ceiling spread out, and if it's a girl, put butterflies, birds, etc. on the wall (painted, stickers, whatever) or planes and bugs, and whatever else for boys. good luck again!
