I am so excited about finding out the sex of the baby on the 14th. Wanted to know the percentage of those of you that have had a sonogram, how accurate was it? Will I be disappointed?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hello ladies,
Paul and I are being blessed with a little GIRL. We both were so emotional at the sonogram. My best friend/sister and my niece also got to attend and we all were in awe. It was a great experience to see my daughter moving on the screen. God surely can create some beautiful things. We did get a chance to record it on VHS, and then I had it converted to a DVD. I plan on surprising my Mom at the end of the month and show up in person in Los Angeles to let her know on her birthday that she is going to have a granddaughter. I can not wait.
Thanks again for all the responses and advice. It really did help this new mom to be.

3 sonograms and my baby refused to show us anything. I didn't know she was a girl until the day she was born.

i cried when i had my first ultrasound. i was only alowed one at that time with my insurance so i had to wait until it was time to see the sex. it was very clear and i was very happy i had it done. i knew from that ultrasound that my son looked like my husband...boy was I right. you'll be very happy with it and make sure you get the pictures. some offices offer to buy a dvd of it. i did and it was only $5. totally worth it. i got to show my parents and my mother in law that didn't get to see him until he was almost three months. good luck!!!

My 1st pregnancy I had the sex u/s at 20wks they said boy..I had no doubt they were wrong and even had them reschedule for about 2 weeks later. Sure enough GIRL!! 2nd pregnancy was twins and I had kidney stones at 16wks..found out in the ER both were boys and it was quite obvious. Last one we had the u/s at the usual 20wks and it was again very obvious a boy.
If you can I highly recommend getting the 3d/4d u/s done. It's amazing to watch your little one and actually see them rather then just a black/white fuzzy picture.

You can expect the most wonderful experience of your life. My sonogram was 100% accurate as the fist picture we saw on the screen was the "boy parts". I cried tears of joy during the whole sonogram. It was amazing to me to see my baby and I didn't want it to end. I don't think you will be disappointed, I know I wasn't, even though my mother (who has had six children) said that I was "spoiling the surprise". And I do recommend getting a tape of the sonogram. I had my first and only child at 37 years old, I waited that long to become a mother and love it! He is now 2 1/2 years old and the love of my life!

I had my sono around 16 weeks and it was right on. The sono tech had absolutely no doubt that we were having a girl and after figuring out the picture, neither did I.

While it's been a while since I've experienced this (my children are now 16g, 12g and 10b) I had a sonogram with each one. With my oldest, it was very accurate. With my 2nd daughter, I didn't find out until the very end of my pregnancy, again it was very accurate. With my son, it was too early to tell so we didn't find out until he was born.

To me, the most exciting thing was seeing them for the very first time rather than the sex of each of them. I say that to encourage you, even if you don't find out the sex of your baby, seeing them for the first time is quite amazing! Each of my children were so unique at birth and their personalities could even be seen on the sonogram. My oldest was sticking out her tongue and you could see it on the screen! Congrats on your new baby and the amazing journey you are about to take!

I have a 2yr old, a 10 mo old, and a baby on the way. Depending on how far along you are (they always made me wait until I was 20 wks or later), both of my sonograms were very accurate. We knew and were able to see exactly what we were having. It's such an exciting time. I happy for you!

A friend told me her doctor said he was looking for a hamburger or a hot dog LOL! I have had 3 children, the first two were girls, and the sono was accurate, I could not really tell much from the sono. My last child was a boy, and lets just say that he wanted everyone to know he was a boy, I could definitely tell with him LOL! Congrats and best wishes!

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel, I could not WAIT for either of my ultrasounds. With my daughter, my doctor had me do it too early, so they said they couldn't tell for sure. However, I had a great doctor who let me watch for a very long time. At one point, he got the wand right under her behind and I could tell for sure, without a doubt, that I was having a girl even though no one would confirm (mind you this was over 13 years ago, and technology has advanced a lot since then). With my son, who is now 18 months old, the first ultrasound showed definitely a boy, the second confirmed, the third and fourth, no doubt I was having a boy. He was not shy for any of them and gladly showed any nurse or technician his business!!

I hope your ultrasound shows definitely one way or the other so you can get ready for a precious baby boy or a sweet baby girl!

Mine was very accurate! I had this same thing done about 11 weeks ago and it was SO easy to see the little "parts". Even with mine being a girl, you could see the two little lines where her little vagina was. Then I had another sono 8 weeks later that confirmed. Of course, she wasn't hiding anything! I took a few people along with me and it was a LOT of fun!!! Enjoy it! :)

I had a level two ultrasound at 14 weeks. They said their "best guess" was that it was a girl. I had another one at 17 1/2 weeks and there was no longer any doubt. The tech said, "see what looks like a hamburger? It's a girl". She was right. Good luck with your sonogram and the pregnancy too. I loved having them every time.
Best wishes,
E.

If they say it is a boy, it is pretty acurate. (You can hardly mistake the boy part.)

If they say it is a girl, there is a chance they are wrong. (The boy part may be "hiding".)

We did not want to know with the first (even though my high-risk pregnancy called for 4 sonos).

With the 2nd baby, I asked toward the end of the sono what it was. The tech replied, "I have not been able to tell." It was like he heard us talking and (the little show off that he still is at almost 8 yrs.) he quickly turned his little bottom up to show us. :o)

Hope this helps,
P. <><

Congrats to you and your hubby! How exciting!!
I had a sono at 17 weeks and could tell my son was a boy before the tech mentioned it. My sister had a sono at 20 weeks and they said she was having a girl - and now my neice is 18 mos old. They have been pretty accurate - I don't have any friends where the sonogram showed something that didn't appear later on.
Such a fun time - I hope you think of a creative way to share it with your family once you know. I took my mother and mother-in-law with me to the appt but my sister's in-laws live out of town so she sent them a pink balloon bouquet saying congrats on your new grandaughter on the way! It was fun!

We have a 4 yr old and a 3 yr old. Both ultrasounds were very accurate. We also have one on the way, that kept her legs and feet crossed for the 1st ultrasound. The second says its a girl! I have no doubt it is a girl. The tech can tell you what they are looking for to indicate wether you are having a girl or boy. Congratulations!

Yippie! I find out on the 23rd, it is so exciting! My doc was right on with my first, a girl. He did the ultrasound at 22 weeks, which is the optimal time to view all of the organs. If it is much earlier, or later than that it might not be as accurate. I would ask the doctor (or technician) "how" sure they are and ask them to show you exactly what they are looking at. I know what you mean, though...I always had in the back of my head, "What if they were WRONG?!" As far as I know it is pretty unusual for them to get it wrong nowadays...though peple just LOVE to tell you stories about a friend of a friend who painted the room pink and had a boy, blah blah blah. Don't listen to them! Good luck!!

For my boy, there was no doubt whatsoever. For my girl, at the first time (18 weeks), they told me 80% chance girl, but she didn't get a good shot of her with her legs apart to see the girl part clearly. But the next time, you could tell 100% for sure it was a girl. So long as they don't say girl because of "absence of boy part" you should be fine. Likely they'll freeze the picture on the screen and point out the actual parts to you, so you know for sure. Its such an exciting day when you find out! :)

I never had a problem finding out the gender of my babies. All girls, all accurately detected. I don't know about boys, except that they say "it's obvious", but with girls, you look for 3 little lines on the bottom. You see those three lines, you're having a girl. All my girls had them...by the third, I saw it before the sono tech did!

Good luck! I'm terribly excited for you! The best parts of pregnancy are sonograms and delivery! I'd do those over and over and over again if I could! Ask if you can video tape it. If so, I use to watch my back when I got home to Enya. It was beautiful watching them move to such soft, relaxing music!

Hi A.,

I have 3 kiddos and had sonos with all. All 3 were accurate in determining gender. However, I did work with a lady who was told to expect a girl and instead had a boy. A lot has to do with the baby's positioning during the sono and the techs experience. All 3 of mine displayed themselves and the tech (same lady did all of mine) has years of experience.

Congrats and Good Luck!!

Congrats! We did not find out the sex of our first baby. We wanted to be surprised when she arrived. However, the second time I was expecting twins and decided that I had to know. Because of a previous miscarriage and twins, I had a sonogram every 2 weeks. When they were far enough along to tell the sex, the doctor was correct. At know time did he change his answer. We were blessed with 1 boy and 1 girl. I hope that you are able to find out the sex of your child. I have been told that some babies are shy and do not cooperate with the sonogram technician. All 3 of mine were wanting to show off their family jewels or lack of jewels. It made it difficult for the first child's sonogram because we did not want to know.

Congratulations! That IS an exciting thing and something to look forward to. I had 3 sonograms total in my pregnancy and I enjoyed all of them. The 2nd one, where we found out the sex of the baby, was really neat; one it was exciting to find out the sex and two, it was amazing to see how much the baby had developed. Most everyone I know that found out the sex, it was accurate; but I have heard of those occasional mix-ups. Best of luck to you, I'm sure it will be wonderful!

I was about 24 weeks (around thanksgiving)the sono showed a little girl....my MIL was beiside herself...she was ready to paint the world PINK. I told her not to get to excited, I did not feel girl in my heart. We picked out a girls name MaKenzie Alexis...but I kept my boys name close at heart. Fast forward to Jan 4, went to a specialist due to health reasons...got a new sono....when the dr asked if we knew we told her yes, and told her the name....she focused in on the screen....told us to pick another name....as i cried lots of tears of joy....I got my BABY BOY!!!! at every sono the tech checked it so i could be sure. I have pictures of both sonos and can see where they called it a girl parts. Listen to your heart. You will know even before you are told

Believe me you will not be disappointed. My husband and I were married 11 years before we conceived, when my pregnancy test finally read PG, I made an appointment. To my SHOCK, I was already 2 months pregnant. The doctor said, "well, let's have a see", he turned on the machine and there was my baby girl already kicking and moving her arms. I cried. There's no other feeling like seeing that little bundle inside of you growing! Congratulations to you and Paul, I was 36 when my daughter was born and that first sonogram will always be a special memory for me.

Congratulations and best wishes on your pregnancy and engagement! We had several sonos since I was considered high risk. With the one at 20 weeks we were sort of able to tell that it was a boy but he liked to lay on his tummy even in utero so it was kind of hard to tell if it was boy parts or the cord. So when we had one at 24 weeks we asked again and that time there were definitely boy parts showing. I don't think you'll be disappointed whether you find out or not. Just remember it can depend on how the baby is sitting.

Hi A.,

How far along is your pregnancy?
If you've reached 14-16 weeks range than the sonogram should be very accurate. The only reason it may not be is because your baby's little legs might be crossed and it can make it a little harder to see the middle but that usually doesn't happen.
I've had 1 girl and 2 boys and each sonogram was right with my first visit to find out gender.

Congratulations to you and GOOD LUCK! : )

I believe sonos are very accurate. I am expecting my 4th and my other three were accurate. I had a level 2 sono at 12 weeks and they said best guess a boy. All of my other sonos indicated he is a boy. Now I can even tell on the sono without the tech pointing out his little boy part.
