Do You Watch It or Turn It Off??

Do you sit and watch the horror unfolding across the country on the weather channel or some other outlet of media? or do you have to turn it off and just start praying?

I cant watch it 24/7. I have been watching it here though since yesterday afternoon because I have so much family spread out from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. I was watching with my breathe held all afternoon yesterday as Tornadoes were touching down in OK. My girlfriend has just contacted me from Missouri she sent me a picture of the wall clouds that were forming right above her. I am here again today on pins and needles just praying. So, what do you do to calm your nerves. Praying has helped but it is so hard to sit here knowing what is going on. She is in Columbia. I hadnt even seen anything on the news that was to be rolling through where she is...but it seems like it is. I think at this moment now anything is possible with these storms.

Do you watch it, turn it off...What do you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have been sitting here going this is not healthy...but at least I am not the only one. I have to know what is happening...and the Live coverage they have had over the last few days has been up to date and very accurate...Yesterday it was like i was watching them roll through outside my window...and I live in Washington state!

My girlfriend has taken cover at work. She works for a catering company and she is now down in the cellar...I am hoping to hear from her soon.

I didn't watch - I went through this with the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and then the Libyan conflict (or whatever it is you want to call it) and I decided I can't do it again this soon. The stuff on the computer is bad enough.

It kinda of reminds me of 9/11. It was all over the news and all my family wanted was a break. I remember my parents, who were in their 60s, and my 3 sisters and I, all in our 20s, watching the cartoon network together so we didn't have to watch anymore coverage. I watch just what is on the evening news and no more.

I watch...I'm fascinated by tornadoes and strong storms. And I grew up and still live in Iowa...so I'm very used to these storms. Seen 'em, heard 'em (and they really do sound like a freight train). It's terrible what is going on with all these tornadoes...but, it's that time of year. And I don't think we are having more tornadoes, they are just 4 or 5s on the F scale.

I'm praying for everyone affected by these storms. It's just terrible!

There are some pretty bad storms going through Columbia right now- I actually think they are almost over though. We are about 2 hours from there and it's creeping up on us now.

We do not even have cable. :)
I do check online alot though- I am super paranoid about being swept up in a tornado in my sleep. (Was like this even before all of these storms and tornados the last few months though)

I check on line - weatherchannel, wunderground - I can stay up to date on warnings and watches - but post Katrina (for me) the visuals are sometimes just too upsetting.

My sister lives in Kansas, just West of Wichita - she spent part of yesterday in her neighbor's basement and now keeps a "go bag" by her front door.

So I pay attention, I pray, and I call often to check on her.

God Bless

I live in the mess so I do watch constantly just so I can be aware of what is going on. Today has been a scary roller coaster here. Sirens going off for over an hour while a storm blew through and several tornado touch downs...less than blocks from where I work and where I was at the time of all of this chaos.

Thought I'd head out for lunch to a friends house and almost got myself into it deeper...storm took a turn that I was unaware of and I drove almost right into it. I am safe my family is all safe but it was scary.

I probably wouldn't watch if I didn't live in active territory! Hope your family is all ok.

I can't watch it. Too much, too real, not good for me to worry like that, not good for my kids to see or to see me worry.

We had a tornado touch down a mile from our house and through the Minneapolis area on Sunday.

We turn it on when the weather is bad and hope and pray it doesn't strike ANYONE, let alone people we love. If you know it's bad weather at your house, then watch. If it is elsewhere, keep in contact with the folks you love but don't watch the over played video, weather reporters etc. It almost always sounds worse as it is happening than once it is over. It's also more reliable afterwards.

Best wishes to all people enduring this nasty weather. It can be absolutely horrifying. Turn your t.v. off or change the channel. If you have to, peek at it every 30 - 45 minutes. Hugs!

I cant watch the news anymore, it gives me such horrible anxiety!
I will occasionally peek at the news for a few minutes every now and again because my husband makes me, but I am always so saddened and my heart is tore up for these people. I pray that families are safe, and that all this passes soon.

But sadly, it feels like and it is, just as soon as one storm, or sad event passes, another is along shortly thereafter. It's heart wrenching, and I cant imagine being in anyone's position. I think we all have family one place or another going through this unfortunately... Myself included, I have a dear nephew in Missouri and I have no contact number for him because of his Mother, I just hope they are okay and safe.

It is hard to sit back and watch, or hear about what is going on, but what else can we really do? All we can do is distract ourselves with other things and hope and pray for the best. Put our faith in God and know whatever happens will.

I wish everyone's families the best, and know they are all in our thoughts.

Best wishes to all!

I go back and forth with it. We had some potentionally bad storms roll through Wisconsin too in the past few weeks. So I will turn on the Weather Channel to check on it but I no longer dwell on it.
In the aftermath of 9-11 I watched it all unfold day after day --week after week and I couldn't sleep--couldn't eat I lost 20 lbs. (yep had it to lose) But after that I just don't watch the tragedy unfold. But I do check it out.

I don't like to see it. We had a few tornadoes here in texas last night and it was too close for comfort. I've never seen anything like that and it was in my backyard. Its awful scary and I turn it off

I watch, not sure why just human nature I guess. One to make sure it isnt bad and second to see the damage and have a huge reality check of what can happen and how lives change in a split second.

I have always been fascinated by tornados and hurricanes. I think because I have grown and lived where there is really isn't either one. I only watch the evening news. But I have been watching, and feeling really blessed that all I have to deal with is a wet spring. My heart goes to all the people who live there. And I hope your friend and family are safe.

I watched some of it because I live a couple hours from Joplin, and it was reported to be tied for the 'deadliest tornado on record.' (http://bit.ly/iLrkFn) Also there were lots of tornado warnings and touchdowns in my area, so I had to know when to take cover - and when it was safe. I cannot imagine the destruction. A friend of mine went with her church to help out and she said the news coverage doesn't even begin to show the amount of destruction, and said it was like a war zone.
